An apparatus and method for improving medication dosing is provided. The apparatus preferably includes a template configured to fit over a barrel of a syringe, the template having a substantially opaque exterior and at least one substantially transparent section in the substantially opaque exterior permitting a view of the syringe barrel and a distal end of a plunger within the barrel of the syringe. A method includes the steps of positioning a dosing template on a syringe, operating a plunger within the syringe, and drawing a predetermined dose of medication into the syringe.

Apparatus and method for improved medication dosing

A multifunctional glucose monitoring system and method of measuring glucose level, determining insulin dosage, and indicating insulin dosage on a syringe is disclosed. The multifunctional glucose monitoring system includes standard functionality with respect to acquiring a blood glucose reading. However, in addition, the multifunctional glucose monitoring system includes a dosage algorithm for calculating an insulin dosage based on the blood glucose reading and any other useful parameters, and includes a built-in marking device for marking the calculated dosage level on the barrel of an insulin syringe that is installed in the body of the multifunctional glucose monitoring system. A method includes the steps of measuring the glucose level, determining an insulin dosage, and indicating the insulin dosage on a syringe.

Multifunctional glucose monitoring system and method of using the same

A self-injection device () for delivering a medicament includes a housing (), and a needle () connected to the housing (). A compressible reservoir () is connected to the housing () and is in fluid communication with a needle () such that compressing the reservoir () delivers medicament from the reservoir () to the needle () and moves the needle () from the first position to the second position. A platform () is disposed within the housing () about which the housing () is rotatable between a plurality of positions. Each of the positions corresponds to a different distance the needle () is moved to the second position during an injection to provide a variable injection depth. The needle () is withdrawn into the housing () after an injection without requiring manual manipulation by the user, thereby preventing needle sticks and other accidents.

Self-injection device

A lancing device integrated with a sensing strip and method of making and using the same are provided. A lance and analyte sensing strip are combined in a single, preferably disposable, device. In a preferred embodiment, a slot is provided in a support member so the lance can be engaged by a lance driver and driven into the skin producing a bodily fluid sample from a wound. The sensing area of the sensing strip is adjacent to the wound location reducing dexterity requirements for patients.

An optical connector device is disclosed for optically connecting a biosensor wearable on the body of a patient to a reader outside of the body of the patient. The device comprises a base disk to be worn on the body of a patient. The base disk has a needle attached thereto and the needle houses a first fiber defining a first optical conduit. The distal end of the needle is insertable into the body of the patient, and a portion of the proximal end of the needle remains outside of the body of the patient when the device is worn. The device also comprises a connector housing a second fiber defining a second optical conduit.

A medicament respiratory delivery device including a housing having a chamber, an inlet and an outlet generally coaxially aligned with the chamber, wherein the chamber includes a medicament cartridge having a body including a generally cylindrical passage extending through the opposed ends of the cartridge generally coaxially aligned with the inlet and outlet of the housing having thin burstable polyolefin membranes having a burst pressure of between 1.2 and 10 atmospheres stretched taut over the ends of the cartridge, such that fluid delivered to the inlet ruptures the membranes, entraining medicament contained within the cartridge passage which is delivered to the patient's respiratory system through the outlet. The method of forming the cartridge includes stretching out and bending a membrane to one end of the cartridge, preferably by heat bonding, filling the cartridge with a medicament and sealing the opposed end preferably with a second burstable membrane by stretching out a membrane over a convex surface and heat bonding.

Method of making a cartridge for a medicament respiratory delivery device

A medicament respiratory delivery device including a housing formed of opposed thermoformed polymeric sheets bonded together having formed therebetween a chamber having a medicament cartridge encapsulated between the sheets, an inlet aligned with a passage through the cartridge having a pierceable closure and an outlet aligned with the passage outlet having a burstable membrane. The device includes a pressure actuator formed as a blister between the sheets and a piercing element having a bow-shaped actuator portion and a shaft which pierces the pierceable closure upon actuation of the pressure actuator, delivering fluid under pressure to the cartridge passage, rupturing the membrane and expressing the medicament.

A medicament respiratory delivery device including a housing having a chamber including coaxially aligned inlet and outlet, a medicament cartridge located within the chamber having a passage therethrough and membranes sealing the passage having a burst pressure of less than 10 atmospheres, a manually actuatable fluid delivery device having an outlet in fluid communication with the chamber and a manually actuated valve located between the outlet of the fluid delivery device and the chamber inlet for delivery of fluid under pressure to the valve. The medicament respiratory delivery device of this invention may be utilized to deliver a controlled unit dose of an aerosolizable medicament on demand by first pressurizing a pressure chamber in the pressure delivery device upstream of the valve, then opening the valve to open the membranes and express the medicament through the chamber outlet.
