A manually operated water purifying device which includes a manually moveable operating member that pumps unpurified water into a conduit where it is exposed to purification by an electrically operated UV-C lamp and then dispensed from a portable container, and the UV-C lamp is energized by an electric generator that is also driven by a manually moveable operating member.

Manually operable water purifying device

A helmet for use by riders of bicycles, motorcycles or other vehicles. Left and right hearing assemblies are mounted inside of the helmet. Each of the assemblies has an enclosed ear cup positioned to fit snugly over a respective one of the user's ears. Respective hearing conduits extend from the ear cups through the interior of the helmet to respective openings. Thereby while the ear cups block substantial wind noises, the hearing conduits direct desirable sounds, such as emergency sirens, other traffic noises and voices, to the user's ears. User operable actuators for closing and opening the hearing conduits as desired can be provided. Optional ventilation tubes direct cooling and drying air through openings in the ear cups to the user's ears. Gates or shutters supported by the helmet shell allow the user to open and dose the ventilation tubes as desired.

Protector hearing helmet

A helmet for use with a bicycle, motorcycle or other vehicle. In one embodiment, a duct is located at each side of the helmet, and used for the dual functions of drawing air from the interior of the helmet and channeling ambient sounds inside the helmet where the sounds can be heard by a user. Sounds may be enhanced by the use of microphones, speakers, and other electronic equipment. The side ducts extend to the rear of the helmet and help to reduce drag and turbulence-induced vibration due to air flow. In another embodiment, separate air and sound ducts are located at each side of the helmet. The separate air and sound ducts function more efficiently because air and sound waves pass through different inlet ports and openings in the helmet. Breakaway joints may be used for the helmet. The breakaway joints provide increased protection for a user because the joints will break apart when the helmet is subjected to excessive forces, causing the air and sound ducts to break apart and separate from the rest of the helmet. The helmet has an adjustable face shield which may be moved forward or backward.

A compact multi-purpose exercise device includes two adjustable length arms which are pivoted together at one end and which has adjustable angle handles or actuators at their other ends. At the pivot point of the two arms a hydraulic resistance member is provided which has a substantially constant force, which may be adjusted, and which is substantially independent of the speed at which the handles are actuated relative to one another. The constant force is provided by a reverse Pelton bucket, which includes a spring-biased member in the hydraulic fluid flow path which is moved to reduce hydraulic flow resistance with increased velocity of the hydraulic fluid flow. Hydraulic fluid is directed to the reverse Pelton bucket assembly by a vane which is rotatable in a hydraulic fluid chamber as the arms are rotated relative to one-another. The two arms of the exercise device are made up of four telescoping sections, with spring-mounted thumb-actuated detents operating into apertures in the inner telescoping arm sections, to hold them at any desired extension from about one foot to about three feet in length. Instead of single handles at the free ends of each of the arms, double handles or stirrups may be provided for easy operation with a person's feet or ankles, or roller wheels may be used to facilitate rowing-type excercises.

Hydraulic resistance exerciser with relatively rotatable arms

A lightweight universal electric wheeled chair is formed of hollow tubular frame members. The seat is preferably cantilevered from rear frame members. The frame includes two lower side frame members, each of which has relatively small wheels mounted at both ends. The frame also includes two rear frame members, pivotally connected together intermediate their ends to form an 'X' configuration with the lower ends of each of the rear frame members being pivotally secured to the rear ends of the lower side frame members. The front of the two lower side members are coupled together using two frame members and linear bearings intercoupling the two frame members to permit adjustment and collapsing of the wheeled chair. Two upper side members extend forwardly from the rear of the wheeled chair, and are secured to the rear frame members. A seat may be supported directly on these two upper side frame members or the two upper side frame members may serve as arms for the wheelchair, with the seat being slung from these arms at a lower position. Motor and gearing arrangements are provided for varying the distance between the two side members to change the height of the seat. When the lower side members are at their maximum separation, the pivoted rear frame members are very nearly parallel and horizontal. Nickel-cadmium batteries may be mounted in the tubular frame and of the wheeled chair, and each of the rear wheels is provided with a small electric motor aligned with and coupled to each rear wheel through appropriate gear reduction assemblies.

Universal electric wheeled chair

A lightweight universal electric wheeled chair is formed of hollow tubular frame members. The seat is preferably cantilevered from rear frame members. The frame includes two lower side frame members, each of which has relatively small wheels mounted at both ends. The frame also includes two rear frame members, pivotally connected together intermediate their ends to form an 'X' configuration with the lower ends of each of the rear frame members being pivotally secured to the rear ends of the lower side frame members. The front of the two lower side members are coupled together using two frame members and linear bearings intercoupling the two frame members to premit adjustment and collapsing of the wheeled chair. Two upper side members extend forwardly from the rear of the wheeled chair, and are secured to the rear frame members. A seat may be supported directly on these two upper side frame members, or the two upper side frame members may serve as arms for the wheeled chair, with the seat being slung from these arms at a lower position. Motor and gearing arrangements are provided for varying the distance between the two side members to change the height of the seat. When the lower side members are at their maximum separation, the pivoted rear frame members are very nearly parallel and horizontal. Nickel-cadmium batteries may be mounted in the tubular frame of the wheeled chair, and each of the rear wheels is provided with a small electric motor, aligned with and coupled to each rear wheel through appropriate gear reduction assemblies.

A novel construction toy includes at least one substantially planar sheet containing a printed pattern on its surface; a plurality of colored interstacking blocks capable of intercoupling, such as frictionally interlocking, with one another to form a pattern corresponding to the pattern printed on said sheet; an elongate grid block capable of intercoupling with said blocks, and a support structure for holding said grid block and said pattern sheet with the latter in a position underlying said grid block; which support structure includes a first elongated member containing a first planar surface and a second planar surface recessed from said first to define a ledge; means for mounting the grid block in a position on said first member so as to protrude into a position overlying said second recessed surface and thereby define a channel for receiving an edge of the sheet; and a second member coupled to said first member for holding the sheet member from said other end; whereby said intercoupling blocks may be built up upon said grid block to the pattern depicted on said underlying sheet.

A picture frame having four elongated side members positioned together to form a rectangle, projections at each end of each of the side members, four clips each adapted to fasten over the two projections of adjoining side members to fasten such side members for hanging the frame, and means which snap to each side member to retain a picture.

A toy vehicle launcher and a toy vehicle for use therewith is disclosed. The toy vehicle launcher includes first and second spaced, generally parallel sidewalls each having an inner surface and an outer surface. A first and a second spiral retainer member are attached to the inner surfaces of the first and second sidewalls respectively. The second spiral member is opposed to the first spiral retainer member, and is generally parallel thereto throughout its length. Each of the spiral retainer members has a first end near the center of the sidewalls of the toy vehicle launcher and a second end near the periphery of the toy vehicle launcher. One of the sidewalls has an aperture therein near its center through which the toy vehicle to be launched can be placed into contact with the first and second spiral retainer members near their first ends. The toy vehicle launcher also includes a second aperture adjacent the second ends of the spiral retainer members. A drive member drives the toy vehicle along the first and second spiral retainer members from the first ends towards the second ends thereof. The toy vehicle is driven along the spiral retainer members and is ejected from the vehicle launcher through the second aperture at the second ends of the spiral retainer members.

Toy vehicle launcher and toy vehicle for use therewith

A food-cutting machine for slicing, grating or shredding foodstuffs such as fruits, vegetables, meats or cheeses. The device is designed particularly for home kitchen use and features a hollow body or housing, the interior of which is adapted to storage of a set of stacked or nested cutters having blades for producing different cuts in various food items. The housing latches to a suction base by means of a cam lock operated by a lever which also operates the suction disc of the base. When the housing is latched to the base, the base is simultaneously fastened to an appropriate work surface by the suction of the disc. When the lever is raised to unlatch the housing, the suction is released so that the device may be moved to another location.
