A light can or enclosure for a can light fixture that simplifies installation, by incorporating to the can the functions of drilling a hole, and mounting the can.

Can light installation system

A needle holder for a tissue sampling device, such as a biopsy gun, may include a receptacle, a cradle within the receptacle, and a cover that interacts with a lock on a biopsy needle set when the cover is closed. The biopsy needle set may include a needle hub that carries a proximal end of a needle, a cannula hub that carries a proximal end of a cannula positioned over a portion of the needle, and a lock. The lock may have a locked arrangement that holds the needle hub and the cannula hub longitudinally in place relative to one another, as well as an unlocked arrangement in which the needle hub and the cannula hub may be moved toward and/or away from one another, enabling the needle to move through the cannula. Methods for obtaining samples from a body of a subject are also disclosed.

Tissue sampling devices and needle holders therefor

Cushioning elements include a breathable material configured to allow gases to pass through at least a portion thereof, and a plurality of discrete segments of thermoplastic elastomeric gel ('gel') heat-fused or otherwise attached to the breathable material. The gel comprises an elastomeric polymer and a plasticizer, with a plasticizer-to-polymer ratio of from about 0.3 to about 50. The plurality of discrete segments defines at least one breathable gap between adjacent discrete segments. Methods of forming cushioning elements include forming a plurality of discrete segments of gel, securing each segment to a breathable material, and providing a gas path through the breathable material and between adjacent segments. Another method includes providing molten gel within a mold, providing at least a second portion of the gel within a permeable material, and solidifying the gel to form discrete segments of gel.

Breathable gel

A molding system includes a plurality of injection heads each configured to inject molten polymer into a mold cavity. Each injection head has an outer body, a piston disposed within the outer body and defining a polymer chamber on a first side of the piston and a pressure chamber on an opposite second side of the piston. The piston moves from a retracted position to an extended position responsive to pressurization of the pressure chamber. Molten polymer is injected from the polymer chamber into the mold cavity as the piston moves from the retracted position to the extended position. Such systems may be used to mold relatively large articles of manufacture.

Small footprint apparatus, method, and tooling for molding large thermoplastic parts

A luer hub connector comprises a hub having a cylindrical bore extending there through. The hub is adapted to have a luer device connected at one end. A cap having a hollow nozzle extending therefrom is formed at the other end of the hub. A cylindrical spring-like member is positioned within the bore in the hub, and a septum membrane closes the end of the spring-like member. A sliding, hollow sleeve member is received in the bore of the hub member, with a hollow nozzle extending from the sleeve member into the bore of the spring-like member. When a luer device is threaded onto the end of the hub, it contacts and drives the sleeve member towards the septum. The end of the hollow nozzle is pushed through the septum, and the spring-like member is also compressed. When the luer device is removed, the spring-like member pushes the sleeve member back, and the hollow nozzle withdraws out of contact with the septum. The septum then closes and seals.

Luer hub connector

Pipe fittings, used in joining abutting ends of two pipe sections, comprise a pair of semi-cylindrical members that are adapted to fit around and engage the periphery of opposed ends of the two abutting ends of the pipe sections. Longitudinal edges of the two semi-cylindrical members are formed so as to mate with one another to form a mechanical means of locking the semi-cylindrical members together in tight engagement with the ends of the pipes. Each of the semicylindrical members has a seal mechanism formed of a resilient, elastomeric material which forms a mechanical, water-tight seal between the mutually respective pair of semi-cylindrical members as well as the opposite ends of the pipes to which the pair of semi-cylindrical members have been attached.

A pacifier which can be used to introduce liquids orally to an infant has a resilient, hollow nipple that extends from a broad, inner face of a shield plate which in turn abuts the external surfaces of the lips of an infant when the nipple is positioned in the infant's mouth. An elongate, delivery tube extends from the shield plate through the nipple. An open, distal end of the delivery tube projects through a distal end of the nipple so that the open, distal end of the delivery tube opens into the infant's mouth when the nipple is in the infant's mouth. Liquid to be administered to the infant is introduced into the proximal end of the delivery tube through a flexible tube that is rotatably attached to the proximal end of the delivery tube.

A collet closer assembly for a machine tool has a body adapted to be attached to a spindle of a machine tool. A pair of bores extend into the body from opposite ends thereof. A collet is received into the bore at the distal end of the body and is immovably attached to the body. A closing sleeve extends from the distal end of the body and encircles the collet. A collet housing is attached to the distal end of the body to enclose the collet sleeve. A slide member is positioned in the bore at the proximal end of the body, and the slide member is adapted to be attached to the end of a draw bar of the machine tool. A mechanical linkage connects the slide member and the collet sleeve so that the collet sleeve moves in concert and in conjunction with the slide member and the draw bar. The collet sleeve closes and opens the collet as the collet sleeve moves forward and backward, respectively. The collet does not move relative to the spindle of the machine tool during opening and closing of the collet, but instead maintains a precise, accurate position relative to the spindle of the machine tool.

An improvement in a tissue sampling apparatus of the type comprising (a) an elongate housing, (b) a knob at the first end of the housing, (c) first and second pistons extending from the second end of the housing, (d) connections on the extending ends of the pistons for connecting a biopsy needle, (e) first and second springs in the housing against which the first and second pistons, respectively, are cocked so that the springs apply a biasing force against the respective pistons, (f) a trigger for releasing the first and second pistons to move in successive movements wherein the first piston moves first to its fully extended position under the biasing force of the first spring while the second piston remains in its cocked position, and after the first piston has moved to its fully extended position, the second piston moves to its fully extended position under the biasing force of the second spring. The improvement involves the cocking mechanism wherein the first and second pistons are moved to their cocked positions in separate distinct operations. The improved cocking mechanism comprises an annular ring near the second end of the housing. As the annular ring is rotated, it moves the second piston into its cocked position. The knob on the first end of the housing is pulled in a direction away from the first end of the housing to move the first piston into its cocked position.

Dual action cocking mechanism for adjustable biopsy device

Core biopsy needle units used with automated biopsy guns are disclosed. The needle units comprise an elongate solid needle having a notch formed adjacent to the end of the needle. A hub is securely attached to the other end of the needle. An elongate cannula is received over the notched end of the needle such that the needle slides longitudinally through the cannula. A second hub is securely attached to the first end of the cannula, and engagement means are formed in the hub on the needle. The hub on the needle and the second hub on the cannula are adapted to be received in respective receiver cavities of an automated biopsy gun, with the engagement means in the hub on the needle making firm, releasable, interlocking engagement with corresponding engagement means associated with the receiver cavity in which the hub on the needle is received. In addition, a mechanism is provided for releasably interlocking the needle and cannula at a proper position and orientation for insertion into the receiver cavities of an automated biopsy gun. The mechanism is released once the needle unit is properly received in the biopsy gun to allow telescopic movement of the needle within the cannula.

Core biopsy needle units for use with automated biopsy guns

A tissue sampling device comprises an inner rod and an outer cannula. A primary piston is attached to a hub on the proximal end of the rod, and a secondary piston is attached to a hub on the proximal end of the cannula. The primary and secondary pistons are coupled to an actuator including a double locking mechanism and a pair of springs. The springs engage the primary and secondary pistons, and the locking mechanism holds the pistons in a cocked position. Upon triggering, the primary piston moves in response to the spring associated therewith. This moves the rod a corresponding distance causing a predetermined length of a sampling notch at the distal end of the rod to extend from the distal end of the cannula and penetrate tissue in the sample target area. Following the movement of the primary piston, the secondary piston is released from the locking mechanism, and the secondary piston moves in response to the spring acting thereon. This moves the cannula along the inner rod, and the sharpened end of the cannula severs tissue in the exposed portion of the notch of the rod and captures the severed tissue as the cannula moves over the exposed portion of the notch. The movement of the primary piston is adjustable, so that the length of the notch exposed to tissue can be controlled thereby allowing adjustable control of the amount of tissue sample that is severed and removed from the target area.
