A step drill bit has a cutting head defining a longitudinal axis and having a plurality of steps having different effective diameters. First and second cutting edges are formed in the cutting head. The first cutting edge and the second cutting edge are arranged such that the bit is asymmetric in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis relative to a plane containing the longitudinal axis. A rubbing surface is formed on each step where the rubbing surface extends to approximately the effective diameter of that step such that the first cutting edge, second cutting edge and the rubbing surface forms three points of contact with the side wall of the hole being cut.

Step drill

A step drill bit can include a cutting head defining a longitudinal axis and multiple steps having different effective diameters. First and second cutting edges can be formed in the cutting head. The first cutting edge and the second cutting edge can be arranged such that the bit is asymmetric in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis relative to a plane containing the longitudinal axis. The step drill bit can further include one or more flutes. Each flute can define a groove in the cutting head that extends along a helical path about the longitudinal axis. Each flute can have a variable helix angle such that the angle of the helix about the longitudinal axis changes at one or more points along the length of the flute.

A wood drill bit has a plurality of step sections where each step section has at least one flute that terminates in a cutting edge. The effective diameter of each of the plurality of step sections is different than the diameter of the other of the plurality of step sections such that a single bit may be used to bore holes in wood of different diameters.

A step drill bit comprises a body. A cutting edge insert is removably attached to the body. The body may be made of a first material and the cutting edge insert may be made of a second material where the second material is different than the first material. The cutting edge insert may define a plurality of progressively larger cutting diameters.

Step drill bit

The drill bit comprises a cutting blade formed at one end of a shank. The cutting blade has a pair of cutting shoulders that extend inwardly from the outer sides of the blade toward the bit axis. A tip having converging sides that create a point extends from the shoulders. The cutting edge of each shoulder is beveled with respect to the plane of the face of the blade. A flute is provided on the leading portion of each blade face adjacent the cutting edges. Each flute is a smooth curve that creates a substantially uninterrupted recess on each face of the blade that facilitates chip removal, increases the drill rate and lowers the power required to drill a hole. A non-stick coating may be applied to the blade to further facilitate chip removal.

Spade bit

A shank that has one end adapted to be connected to a chuck of a rotary tool. The opposite end of the shank supports a cutting head having a series of teeth formed on the edge thereof for cutting the periphery of the hole. A screw tip may be provided for feeding the bit into and through the wood. A plurality of cutting blades are provided for boring the interior of the hole. The cutting blades define a plurality of cutting edges that are disposed at different angles to a plan perpendicular to the axis of rotation.

Multi-blade self feed bit

The self feeding drill bit comprises a shank that has one end adapted to be connected to a chuck of a rotary tool such as a drill or power driver. The opposite end of the shank supports a cutting member where the cutting member is a cup shaped member having a series of teeth formed on the edge thereof. A screw tip is provided for feeding the cutting member into and through the wood. A removable cutting blade is provided for boring the interior of the hole. A kit including a self feed bit and a plurality of replacement bits is also provided.

Self feed bit

A drill bit comprises a shank having a longitudinal axis. A cutting head is formed at one end of the shank. A removable and replaceable pilot tip such as a screw tip or pilot point is formed on the cutting head. The pilot tip is designed for controlled failure. A tool is also provided for removing the broken tip. A kit comprising a dill bit adapted to receive a removable tip, a removable tip for attachment to the cutting head, and/or a removal tool for removing a broken tip from the drill bit. A method for removing a tip from a drill bit and replacing it with another tip is also provided.

A lockset drilling guide that comprises a frame is provided. The frame comprises a first flange and a second flange. The second flange is capable of flexing relative to the first flange. The lockset drilling guide further comprises at least a first opening and a second opening defined in the frame. The first opening is positioned at approximately 90 degrees relative to the second opening. A positioning member is mounted on the frame, wherein the positioning member is laterally movable to at least two positions relative to the frame. The frame is configured for mounting on a door to facilitate the forming of holes in the door for the installation of a lockset.

A lockset drilling guide and a method of forming holes in a door are provided. The drilling guide includes a frame and at least a first opening and a second opening defined in the frame. The first opening is positioned at approximately 90 degrees to the second opening. The frame is configured for positioning on a door to facilitate the forming of openings in a door for the installation of a lockset. The method includes the steps of providing a frame having at least a first opening and a second opening defined in the frame; positioning the frame on an edge of the door; inserting a first holesaw at least particularly into the first opening and drilling a first hole in the door; inserting a second holesaw at least partially into the second opening and drilling a second hole in the door; and removing the frame from the door.
