The apparatus has a generally cylindrically shaped rotating collar for sealing the chamber after casting material has been poured into it. The apparatus has a slidable plunger mechanism with an enlarged tip for forcing casting material through a shot sleeve toward the die. A flat annular collar retainer plate is located at right end of the collar. A sleeve seal tube is attached to the collar retainer plate adapted to receive the plunger tip. A seal housing is carried by and is slidable on the plunger stem, has an enlarged left end portion in which a sleeve seal is located so that when the plunger mechanism is moved to the left, the plunger tip enters the chamber and the seal housing and plunger stem move to the left until the seal engages the seal tube during leftward movement of the plunger. Further movement of the plunger stem results in the stem sliding relative to the seal housing while the plunger tip forces material in the chamber toward the die cavity. A vacuum is produced behind the plunger tip during movement which prevents premature flow of casting material into the die cavity.

Disclosed herein is a rotary lawn mower comprising a housing supported for rotation along the ground, an engine mounted on the housing and including a rotatably mounted crankshaft, a cutter blade located in the housing and fixed to the crankshaft, a braking surface located on the crankshaft and having common rotation therewith, a brake arm supported for movement relative to the engine between a braking position and a non-braking position, which brake arm has thereon a brake surface which is engagable with the braking surface when the brake arm is in the braking position, a spring biasing the brake arm toward the braking position, an actuating linkage for moving the brake arm into the non-braking position against the action of the brake arm biasing spring, and a lost motion connection between the brake arm and the actuating linkage.

Disclosed herein is a starter mechanism for an engine having a starter gear, which starter mechanism includes a rotatable starter shaft, a starter pinion rotatably mounted on the starter shaft for axial movement, in response to rotation of the starter shaft in one direction, to an engine starting position in driving engagement with the engine starter gear, and a drive member mounted for rotation coaxially with the starter shaft and drivingly connected to the starter shaft. Manual starting of the engine is selectively effected by rotating a circular member or rotor drivingly connected to the drive member through a first one-way clutch which, in response to rotation of the rotor in the one direction, affords common rotary movement of the rotor and the drive member and permits free wheeling of the drive member relative to the rotor in the same direction when the rotor is not operated. Powered starting of the engine is selectively effected, independently of the manual starter, by a power unit including a driven gear mounted coaxially with the drive member and drivingly connected to the drive member through a second one-way clutch which, in response to operation of the power unit, affords common rotary movement of the drive gear and the drive member in the one direction and which permits free wheeling of the drive member relative to the driven gear in the same direction when the power unit is not operated.
