A gas dosing apparatus is provided that includes an inlet configured to receive gas, and a directional control valve connected to the inlet and having a first position and a second position. The gas dosing apparatus also includes a fixed volume reservoir connected to the directional control valve and receiving gas from the inlet, via the directional control valve, while the directional control valve is in the first position. The gas dosing apparatus further includes an outlet connected to the directional control valve and outputting a gas dose received from the fixed volume reservoir, via the directional control valve, while the directional control valve is in the second position.

A valve integrated pressure regulator (VIPR) device that can be attached to the outlet of a gas cylinder, which can monitor the amount of gas in the cylinder is provided. Features of the disclosed device include an electronic control, electronic alarm and the electronic display that are powered by rechargeable battery that may be disposed within the VIPR shroud or within a removable cylinder base affixed to a bottom of the gas cylinder. Additional functionality and security features may be provided via additional internally disposed sensors and/or wireless or hard-wired communications with one or more auxiliary devices.

Method and apparatus for controlling gas flow from cylinders

A capacitor is described. The capacitor includes a casing of first and second casing members secured to each other to provide an enclosure, a feedthrough electrically insulated from the casing and extending there from through a glass-to-metal seal, first and second anodes electrically connected to each other within the casing, a cathode, and an electrolyte. The cathode is of a cathode active material deposited on planar faces of the first and second casing members. There is also a cathode current collector disposed intermediate the first and second anodes. The cathode current collector supports cathode active material on both of its major faces and includes a tab that is directly electrically connected to a ferrule of the glass-to-metal seal. That way, the casing is the negative terminal for the cathode and a feedthrough pin extending through the glass-to-metal seal is the positive terminal for the anode of the capacitor.

An apparatus and method for cutting and heat sealing separator materials enveloping individually shaped electrode is described. The electrodes can be cathodes, anodes or other active components for incorporation into batteries, capacitors, and other implantable medical devices.

A capacitor a casing of first and second casing members, a feedthrough electrically insulated from the casing and extending there from, first and second anodes electrically connected to each other within the casing, a cathode, and an electrolyte is described. The first anode is electrically connected in parallel to the second anode by a first anode wire having opposite ends contacting the respective first and second anodes. A feedthrough wire extending outside the casing and electrically isolated there from is electrically connected to the first anode wire intermediate the first and second anodes. The cathode is disposed between the first and second anodes.

A polymeric cradle molded about the periphery of an anode pellet in an electrolytic capacitor is described. The polymeric cradle contacts between a welding strap surrounding the butt seam between mating 'clam shell' casing portions and the anode pellet sidewall. This prevents the anode pellet from moving along both an x- and y-axes. Having the cathode active material contacting the opposed major casing sidewalls being in a closely spaced relationship with the anode pellet through an intermediate separator prevents movement along the z-axis. The resulting capacitor is particularly well suited for use in high shock and vibration conditions.

A capacitor having a cylindrical shape or configuration so that it is capable of being inserted directly into the vasculature of a patient is described. A typical diameter for the present capacitor is about 6 mm. A capacitor of this size would occupy about 9% of the total cross-sectional area of the inferior vena cava prior to the crossover to the heart, where the typical diameter of the vein is about 20 mm. The crossover section has a diameter of about 11 mm to about 12 mm.

Structures for serially connecting at least two capacitors together are described. Serially connecting capacitors together provides device manufactures, such as those selling implantable medical devices, with broad flexibility in terms of both how many capacitors are incorporated in the device and what configuration the capacitor assembly will assume.

Capacitor interconnect design

New designs that provide two anodes and their associated feedthroughs incorporated into one capacitor are described. The feedthrough wires can be in their own glass-to-metal seal or, they can be combined into one glass-to-metal seal as long as they are electrically insulated from each other. One embodiment has the anode feedthroughs left unconnected, while in other embodiments; they are joined externally of the capacitor casing. Several interconnect designs are described.
