An intake valve for a combustion engine is described. The intake valve has a head portion that is designed to improve the flow of air-fuel mixture around the head portion and into the combustion chamber. The head portion has a beveled or rounded edge at the top surface. The angle changes from the underside surface to the top surface are rounded to prevent separation of the air-fuel mixture from the surface of the intake valve. In addition, the underside surface of the head portion has a plurality of helical grooves that induce a circular flow to improve mixing of the air-fuel mixture in the chamber. The helical grooves also improve heat exchange between the air-fuel mixture and the intake valve.

Combustion engine intake valve

A multi-electrode spark plug having a large spark target volume is disclosed. The spark plugs have a plurality of ground electrode rods which extend from the base of the spark plug and are twisted around center electrode to provide a plurality of substantially equidistant spark points relative to the center electrode. The spark points are formed in parallel and around the elongated axis of the spark plug. This configuration enables the spark to be created where the localized concentration of fuel to air is richer, such as that which may exist when the engine is operating with lower revolutions per minute. Test results indicate that automobiles equipped with the multi-electrode spark plugs exhibit improved fuel economy, and substantially reduced emissions and air pollution.

An antenna for radio frequency (RF) applications comprising: a dielectric element including a dielectric material; an active element attached to a first external surface of the dielectric element; a cavity in the dielectric element; a radio device deposited in the cavity and adapted for coupling to the active element; and an electromagnetic interference (EMI) shield positioned in the cavity and between the radio device and the dielectric element, the EMI shield configured for inhibiting EMI between the radio device and the active element.

Antenna having an embedded radio device

A portable device providing wireless communication capability with a network using an antenna subsystem. The portable device comprises a housing for supporting components of the portable device including the antenna subsystem, such that the housing includes a first housing corner having a first housing wall, a second housing wall in an opposed spaced apart relationship with the first housing wall, a third housing wall connecting the first housing wall with the second housing wall and a fourth housing wall connecting the first, second and third housing walls to one another. The portable device also has a first antenna of the antenna subsystem having a first non-planar metal layer positioned adjacent to at least three of the first, second, third and fourth housing walls of the first housing corner, such that the first non-planar metal layer extends away from the first housing corner in at least one of a parallel or non-parallel relationship with each of said at least three of the first, second, third and fourth housing walls.

Antenna configuration for corner placement in portable devices

A cap assembly attachable to a main housing of a handheld device. The cap assembly includes a cap body at least partially defining one or more cavities therein, and one or more WAN antennas receivable in the cavity. In addition, the cap assembly includes an electromagnetic shield receivable in the cavity for providing each WAN antenna with a predetermined electromagnetic environment in which the impedances of the WAN antenna and the electromagnetic shield are substantially matched.

Cap assembly

A bracket assembly is provided for attaching to a mobile computing device. The mobile computing device has a use range at which the mobile device is typically positioned when in use. The use range varies between a low end angle and a high end angle. The mobile computing device also has a housing having a reference plane. The bracket assembly is configured to support a first antenna at a first angle and a second antenna at a second angle, each of the first angle and the second angle being measured with respect to the reference surface when the bracket assembly is attached to the mobile computing device. The first angle is selected so that the first antenna is in a vertical plane when the mobile computing device is positioned at the low end angle. The second angle is selected so that the second antenna is in a vertical plane when the mobile computing device is positioned at the high end angle.

Antenna configuration

A portable terminal has a first enclosure of a housing having a first interior to contain a plurality of electronic components and a ground. The terminal has a second enclosure of the housing for coupling to the first enclosure, the second enclosure having a second interior to contain an antenna and for facilitating at least one of receiving or transmitting of electromagnetic (EM) signals between the antenna and an environment external to the second enclosure. The terminal has an EM shield positioned at an interface between the first interior and the second interior, the EM shield including electrically conductive material to absorb EM radiation generated by the plurality of electronic components. Also included is an electrically conductive coupling to couple the EM shield to the ground of the first enclosure.
