Molded urethane articles (10) are deflashed by impinging or shooting particles (14) of polyvinyl chloride at the flash (18) which develops between the seams of the mold parts. The polyvinyl chloride particles (14) are random in shape and have a maximum cross-sectional measure of 0.125 inches. The polyvinyl chloride particles (14) are set in motion using a blast of air produced by a particle blaster (12). The polyvinyl chloride particles (14) have a hardness range (50-85 Shore A durometer) which is hard enough to deflash articles made of semi-rigid urethane and, yet, soft enough not to damage a polyvinyl chloride cone.

Method of cleaning foamed articles

An improved interior automotive door panel assembly including integrally molded fasteners adapted to being connected to openings formed in the outer metal door structure. In an alternate embodiment the interior door panel assembly including the integrally molded fasteners has a bezel detachably mounted on the fasteners thereof by the interior door panel assembly supplier. The bezel is adapted to being automatically adhesively secured to the metal door assembly along the vehicle assembly line by the vehicle manufacturer. The interior door panel and fasteners may be subsequently removed from the bezel in the field.

Automotive door panels and method of assembly therefor

A method for testing foam formulations for the quantitative measure of the effects of formulation and/or process variable changes on some kinds of surface problems of a molded part caused by different degrees of imperfection or voiding underneath the part surface. The molded part can be single component or composite, solid or foamed. One example of the surface problem is the so-called 'measles or cellulite' problem observed on the vinyl surface of a vinyl/foam composite due to the voids or rattiness within the foam. To accomplish this result, the mold has various sized, spaced apart, aligned openings formed in each of the front and rear walls of the mold, but with the centers thereof at different elevations in the respective front and rear walls. Removable rods inserted through the aligned mold wall openings produce longitudinal openings through the part which is molded around the rods, permitting the effect thereof on the surface of the molded part to be evaluated.

Method for testing foam formulations

A method of making a foam filled polymer article includes the steps of compressing an expandable foam material (12) and containing the compressed expandable material (12) in a degradable container, such as a polyethylene bag (16). An outer polymer shell (10) is formed while degrading the container (16) therewithin, such as by rotation molding. The shell (10) is filled with the uncontained expandable foam material (12).

Test mold

A mold assembly for manufacturing composite plastic products includes a mold cavity part and a lid, which is joined to form a cavity for foam precursors. The precursors expand in the cavity in a known manner to fill the cavity with a suitable layer of foamed material, such as foamed urethane. The mold cavity supports an exterior shell and the lid supports an insert for reinforcing a finished composite product. A sleeve is integrally formed on the preformed shell and it in turn is located within an access port formed through wall of the cavity part to define a slideway for receipt of a pour head extension. The extension is selectively clamped and unclamped with respect to the shell sleeve by an inflatable seal clamp which is formed as an annular ring with a pressurizable passage connected to a source of selectively applied pressure. With the passages pressurized, an apex on the inside diameter of the ring will apply a highly localized pressure against the outer surface of the shell sleeve to hold the inner surface thereof in tight sealing engagement with the pour head extension.
