An injection and mixing device comprises a casing having an exhaust inlet and an exhaust outlet, the casing internally defining a passage for exhaust gases from the exhaust inlet to the exhaust outlet. The exhaust inlet opens into an inlet region of the passage. The injection and mixing device further includes an injector of a liquid comprising a nitrogen oxide reducing agent or a precursor of such a reducing agent. A deflector is housed within the casing and defines in the passage a first passage connecting the inlet region to the exhaust outlet, in which the exhaust gases flow at a first average velocity, and a second passage connecting the inlet region to the exhaust outlet, in which the exhaust gases flow at a second average velocity lower than the first average velocity, The injector injects liquid into the second passage.

A mixer includes a baffle having a baffle inlet receiving exhaust gas from an upstream exhaust component and a baffle outlet directing exhaust gas to a downstream exhaust component. A cover provides a chamber between an internal surface of the cover and the baffle. An internal box is positioned within the chamber to cover the baffle outlet and includes a bottom wall with a peripheral wall extending about at least a portion of an outer periphery of the bottom wall. At least one deflector wall is positioned within the internal box to provide a wall surface that is spaced from the peripheral wall to define an internal flow path that diverts exhaust gas at least partially around the baffle outlet before exiting the baffle outlet. An opening is located in the peripheral wall to receive exhaust gas exiting the inlet and to direct exhaust gas into the internal flow path.

A vehicle exhaust system includes an inlet module configured to receive engine exhaust gas and a mixer housing defining an internal cavity that receives engine exhaust gas from the inlet module. An injection component is positioned within the internal cavity and has a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet to direct injected fluid into the internal cavity to mix with the engine exhaust gas. The injection component defines an injection axis and includes an inner structure defining an inner gas flow path and an outer structure defining an outer gas flow path that is between the inner and outer structures and radially outward of the inner gas flow path to improve mixing at the fluid outlet. An outlet module is configured to direct a mixture of engine exhaust gas and fluid to a downstream exhaust component.

High efficiency mixer for vehicle exhaust system

A vehicle exhaust component assembly includes an inlet module configured to receive engine exhaust gas, a mixer housing defining an internal cavity that receives engine exhaust gas from the inlet module, and an injection component defining an injection axis and positioned within the internal cavity. The injection component has a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet to direct injected fluid into the internal cavity to mix with the engine exhaust gas. The injection component comprises at least a first curved sheet and a second curved sheet that cooperate with each other to surround the injection axis, wherein the second curved sheet is offset from the first curved sheet by a radial gap to create a swirling gas flow within the injection component to mix with fluid injected via the fluid inlet. An outlet module directs a mixture of engine exhaust gas and fluid to a downstream exhaust component.
