A method of TI formation evaluation is disclosed. The method comprises receiving a plurality of borehole measurements; deriving a correlation between a first TI stiffness parameter and other TI stiffness parameters where the first and other TI stiffness parameters representing mechanical behavior of the TI formation; and computing the first and other TI stiffness parameters based on the borehole measurements and the derived correlation. The method further comprises evaluating TI formation elastic properties based on the computed first and other TI stiffness parameters. The method further comprises assuming that the shear modulus parallel to TI symmetric axis can be approximated from other moduli.

Method and apparatus for evaluating elastic mechanical properties of a transversely isotropic formation

Methods for evaluating the properties of formations surrounding a borehole, include the steps of measuring electrical properties of the formation from within the borehole; deriving a model of parameters of the formation surrounding the borehole; and estimating the properties of the formation using the model to interpret the measured electrical properties. In one aspect of the invention in which the formation includes a series of distributed beds, each bed having specific properties. Another aspect includes grouping similar beds, assigning one or more properties to all of the beds in a group, and using the assigned properties to estimate the properties of the formation for measurements relating to the beds of that group. Another aspect includes making several different measurements of formation electrical properties and simultaneously estimating the formation properties from the different measurements to provide a joint inversion. A still further aspect includes the use of a complex model incorporating electrical properties with other petrophysical information to estimate the properties of the formation from the electrical measurements.

Method for evaluating formation properties

A method of determining a physical parameter of geological formations having a borehole passing therethrough by using a sonde lowered down the borehole at the end of a cable and including a source of gamma radiation, a very near detector, a near detector, and a far detector, the method being characterized in that: for each energy window, a model is created characteristic of the response of each detector; a 'low resolution' value of the looked-for parameter is determined which, when applied to the model, gives rise to a theoretical measurement that is substantially equal to the 'low resolution' real measurement obtained by combining the measurements from all three detectors; the measurements from the two detectors nearest the source are combined to constitute a 'high resolution' real measurement; and a 'high resolution' value of the parameter is determined which, when applied to the model, gives rise to a theoretical value that is substantially equal to the 'high resolution' real measurement, the determination being performed on the basis of the 'high resolution' real measurement and of the 'low resolution' value of the parameter.
