A restraining device of a seat unit protecting a person without relying on a supporting surface. The first part extends from its first end in a first direction over the shoulder of a person sitting in the vehicle seat to a backrest-distal second end being located in front of the person's head and/or torso, and in a second direction from a person-outer third end to a person-inner fourth end. The second part extends in a third direction from a fifth end to a sixth end and from a backrest-proximate seventh end to a backrest-distal eighth end, such that a least an upper section of the second part extends laterally of the person's head. The third part extends in the second direction from a person-outer ninth end to a person-inner tenth end, such that at least an upper section of the third part faces the person's face.

Restraining device, restraining assembly and seat unit

The airbag comprises an outer skin () having a first opening (), a flap () being at least indirectly attached to the outer skin (), and a tether (). The first end of the tether is attached to a flap () and the second end () of the tether is detachably attached to a holding element (). When the airbag is deployed and the tether () is under tension, the flap () covers the first opening () at least partially such that the ventilation device is in a closed or throttled first state. When the airbag is deployed and the tether () is not under tension because the second end () of the tether is detached from the holding element, the flap () covers the first opening () less than in in the first state, such that the ventilation device is in second state. The flap () is located between the outer skin () and an additional layer () having a second opening () at least partially overlapping the first opening ().

Airbag module with a controllable ventilation device

A frontal airbag unit adapted for being mounted above the person to be protected is described. It comprises an inflator () and an airbag consisting of a first outer skin () enclosing a filling and support chamber () and a second outer skin () enclosing a protection chamber (). In order simplify the production process and in order to provide a good support for the deployed second outer skin () the first outer skin () is comprised of a first layer () and a second layer () being connected to one another by means of a first peripheral connection such that the filling and support chamber () is relatively flat.

Frontal airbag unit and motor vehicle

An airbag module having an airbag casing and at least one installation opening () formed in the airbag casing for guiding in at least one part of a gas generator. The airbag casing has at least two layers () regionally lying one another, in which differently-oriented incisions are provided that together form the installation opening (). The layers () lying over one another forming the installation opening () are connected to one another by at least one seam (). The region () of the airbag casing forming the installation openings () is separated from the rest of the airbag casing by the seam. The incisions in each layer () each form a longitudinal recess () forming a combined shape with an outer circumferential line in their projection viewed over all layers () and the seam duplicates the circumferential line of the combined shape.

An airbag module () with a housing () accommodating a gas generator () and a folded airbag () whose deployment opening () is closed before activation of the airbag () by a cover () fixed on the housing () by at least one predetermined breaking point () and to secure the opened cover () on the housing (). An arrester strap () is positioned in a displaceable manner between the cover () and the housing (). The cover () bearing a manufacturer emblem () on its exterior is secured on the housing () by means of a hinge () and the arrester strap () is attached by its one end () to a part affixed to the housing and encloses at least an area of the cover () or the manufacturer emblem () in a loop ().

In an airbag arrangement for a front seat passenger in a motor vehicle, an airbag is mounted, in its stowed condition, in a dashboard of the vehicle. The airbag is configured to inflate to a deployed condition interposed between the dashboard and the front seat passenger. The inflated airbag is wider on an upper side, over an impact region nearer the front seat passenger, than on a lower side adjacent the dashboard. The airbag is narrower at an end adjacent the vehicle dashboard than at an end nearer to the front seat passenger.

A steering wheel is disclosed, the steering wheel comprising a frame as radially outwardly-extending spokes () and a rim (). The frame defines a recess to receive an air-bag unit. The steering wheel is provided with a number of mounting elements () associated with a respective spoke (). Each mounting element () is connected to the steering wheel and has a portion () overlying part of the steering wheel. The air-bag unit () is connected to each mounting element () by means of a resiliently-biased connection to permit relative movement of the air-bag unit () with respect to the steering wheel, such that the peripheral part of the air-bag unit () defines a pre-determined gap between itself and the overlying portion () of the mounting element ().
