A regulator has a circuit generating an activation command by bringing, to a first voltage higher than a high reference voltage, a bidirectional line connected to a detection circuit for detecting a status of the activation command. The detection circuit comprises generation means for generating a fault signal from a flag indicating a failure of the alternator, linking the line to a ground by means of a switching element, thus bringing the line to a second voltage lower than a fault voltage lower than the high reference voltage, and the control circuit comprises detection means for detecting the fault signal. The control circuit further transmits a setpoint PWM signal having a maximum higher than the high reference voltage and a minimum lower than a low reference voltage higher than the fault voltage, a duty ratio of the setpoint signal being representative of a setpoint voltage (V) of the regulator.

Device for controlling a regulator of a motor vehicle alternator, and alternator comprising the corresponding regulator

System () for managing a supply voltage (B+A) of an onboard electrical network of a motor vehicle comprises a device () for regulating the supply voltage and a device () for protecting the onboard electrical network against overvoltages, the two devices together controlling an excitation of an alternator supplying the onboard electrical network. According to the invention, the protection device is separate from the regulating device. An overvoltage signal (OVD) generated by the protection device () and controlling the excitation has priority over an excitation signal (EXC) generated by the regulating device. The regulating device and the protection device can be in the form of two separate electronic blocks on separate substrates.

The excitation circuit according to the invention controls an excitation current (lexc) in an excitation winding () of an alternator by means of an on-board network voltage control loop (Vbat+,) of the vehicle, and comprises a first MOS power transistor () which is connected between a first positive supply terminal Vbat+ (), and a first excitation terminal (), and is controlled by the control loop by means of a first control circuit (), a second MOS power transistor (), which is connected between the first excitation terminal and a second excitation terminal () which is connected to a ground terminal () and acts as a free wheel diode, whilst being controlled by means of a second control circuit (). According to the invention, the circuit additionally comprises a control loop () of a drain-source voltage (Vds) of the second transistor.

The regulator/brush-holder assembly () comprises a support () and an electrical circuit () comprising a regulating element () connected by microwires to a trace circuit (). The electrical circuit further includes a filtering circuit () separate from the regulating element and connected by microwires to the trace circuit. According to one particular embodiment, the filtering circuit comprises an insulating substrate () and surface-mounted components (C, C, S, S, V). A ground plane () and/or one or more ground pads may be provided for connection to a ground trace of the trace circuit. The filtration frequencies of the filter circuit extend from 100 kHz to 1 GHz.
