Systems and methods for aligning an electronic device to a wireless charging pad disposed under a work surface are described. In some embodiments, a system may include a printed circuit board (PCB) and a light indicator coupled to the PCB, where the light indicator is configured to connect to a wireless charging pad disposed under a work surface, and where light emitted by the light indicator is visible to a user from above the work surface.

Systems and methods for aligning an electronic device with respect to a wireless charging pad disposed under a work surface

A display cover can include a rectangular body having opposing outer and inner surfaces and an edge that connects the outer and inner surfaces. A central region, widthwise edge regions, and lengthwise edge regions can each define a portion of the outer and inner surfaces, and the edge regions each can extend from the central region to define a portion of the edge. The central region can be planar such that a plane lies between the outer and inner surfaces throughout the central region. Each of the widthwise edge regions can curve away from the central region such that a line that is tangent to the outer surface at the edge region is substantially perpendicular to the plane of the central region. The body's average thickness can be less than or equal to 0.5 mm, and the body can comprise at least a majority, by weight, of a polymeric material.

Curved-edge display covers and methods of making the same

A portable information handling system housing integrates a display having an edge-to-edge presentation of visual images at a housing portion with an inactive portion of a display panel along a perimeter of the display having a sensor region that provides access to underlying sensors through the display. A sealant and black matrix disposed in the inactive region limits illumination that escapes from an active region and provides an aesthetically appealing edge-to-edge appearance. Openings in the sealant and black matrix at the sensor locations provides access through the display, such as with index matching resin that passes illumination and a patterned covering of the black matrix.

A portable information handling system housing integrates a display having an edge-to-edge presentation of visual images at a housing portion with an inactive portion of a display panel along a perimeter of the display supported by a backplate flange extension region that extends from a backlight outer perimeter associated with an active area of the display panel to the perimeter of the housing portion. Openings formed in the backplate extension flange region provide access for sensors through the display panel inactive area with backlight illumination leakage to the opening blocked by optically dense adhesive.

Edge-to-edge display module

An information handling system display has an edge-to-edge appearance with a polarizer disposed as an outer layer in a housing perimeter and supported by a stainless steel support structure coupled to an underlying display module that frames the display area and extends to the housing perimeter. Flowable optically clear adhesive disposed between the display module and polarizer provides a planar outer surface relative to a height of the support structure.

Information handling system edge-to-edge display

A cooling system for an information handling system in a portable chassis comprises a vapor chamber for transferring heat away from components, a porous heat exchanger for receiving heat from the vapor chamber, an air pump of receiving airflow at a first air pressure and generating a second airflow at a second air pressure greater than the first airflow. The porous heat exchanger may comprise one of a plurality of sides of an internal air chamber configured to allow the air pump to generate the second air pressure two to three orders of magnitude greater than the first air pressure. An air pump such as a piezoelectric air pump can generate airflow at a pressure that is two to three orders of magnitude greater than possible using a traditional blower.

An electro-permanent magnet key assembly may comprise an electro-permanent magnet generating a magnetic field when a direction of current applied to an electrically conductive wire coiled around a low-coercivity magnet, and a pair of scissor plates operably connected to the electropermanent magnet, such that the scissor plates rotate away from one another in the presence of downward force on a key cap situated atop the scissor plates. The top surface of the key cap may lie flush with adjacent keys of a keyboard when the key cap is in a neutral position. The electro-permanent magnet key assembly may further comprise a ferromagnetic flange operably connected to one of the scissor plates having angled overlap protrusions situated adjacent to the electropermanent magnet when the key cap is not in the neutral position, such that the angled overlap protrusions are attracted toward the magnetic field to return the key cap to the neutral position.

A dual axis hinge assembly couples first and second hinges to each other with a central barrel and routes cables across hinge axles with cable channels formed in the axles. The dual axis hinge assembly rotationally couples information handling system housing portions to each other and routes cables between the housing portions distal the barrel by running the cables through a channel formed in each axle of one of the hinges with the cable entering one axle distal the barrel, routing through the axle to a position proximate the barrel, crossing the hinge to enter the other hinge axle proximate the barrel and routing though the other axle to exit distal the barrel.

A dual-contact electro-permanent magnet (EPM) assembly of an information handling system may comprise a plurality of high-coercivity magnets situated on opposite ends of a low-coercivity magnet, a first EPM magnetic contact disposed between a first of the plurality of high-coercivity magnets and the low-coercivity magnet, and a second EPM magnetic contact disposed between a second of the plurality of high-coercivity magnets and the low-coercivity magnet. The low-coercivity magnet polarity may correlate to a direction of current pulse applied to an electrically conductive wire coiled around the low-coercivity magnet, and dependent upon the low-coercivity magnet polarity, the first EPM magnetic contact is capable of operating in an attractive magnetic state to attract a ferromagnetic contact of a peripheral device while the second EPM magnetic contact is magnetically neutral with respect to the ferromagnetic contact.

Imethods and systems for operably connecting notebook computing components using electropermanent magnets

A variable torque opening hinge joint for a laptop may comprise a shaft having a protrusion along its axial length and operably connecting to a display chassis inserted through a first hinge joint and a second hinge joint that are operably connected to a base chassis. The first hinge joint may apply a constant torque resistive to a rotation of the shaft throughout a range of angular displacement, and the second hinge joint may apply a variable torque resistive to a rotation of the shaft that increases from a minimum variable resistive torque to a maximum variable resistive torque over a preset subset of the range of angular displacement to reach a maximum variable torque. A leading edge of the protrusion and a trailing edge of the protrusion may be separated by an angle equivalent to the preset subset of the range of angular displacement.
