A valve assembly including a housing and a first movable member which divides the housing into a control chamber and a main chamber. A second movable member has a first valve part and a second valve part and is movable to engage the first valve part with a corresponding inlet valve part to substantially prevent flow of fluid into the main chamber via an inlet port. The first movable member is provided with an exhaust valve part and is movable to engage the second valve part of the second movable member to substantially prevent flow of pressurized fluid out of the main chamber via an exhaust port. A support part is secured relative to the housing, there being a first seal between the second movable member and the support part and a second seal between the support part and the first movable member.

Valve assembly

An electromagnetic valve comprises a yoke, a magnet having pole pieces defining a gap, a flexure assembly having one end attached to the yoke such that part of the flexure assembly extends into the gap, and a mechanism configured to polarize the magnetizable portion so that the extending part of the flexure assembly is attracted towards a pole piece by a magnetic force, thereby defining a valve state. The flexure assembly has at least one resilient portion and at least one magnetizable portion, wherein the extending part of the flexure assembly is movable between the pole pieces through an intermediate position towards which it is resiliently biased such that a resilient mechanical force is generated by deflecting the resilient portion from an undeflected position. The magnetizable portion and the resilient portion are configured such that the magnetic force defining the valve state is greater than the resilient mechanical force.

Electromagnetic flexure

A valve assembly () having a housing () into which are provided a first port (), a second port () and a third port (), and in which are located a first movable member (), a second movable member () and a third movable member (), the first movable member () being movable between a first position which causes the second movable member () to close the first port () to prevent any substantial flow of fluid through the first port (), whilst the second () and third () ports remain open, a second position which causes the third movable member () to close the third port () to prevent any substantial flow of fluid through the third port (), whilst the first () and second () ports remain open and flow of fluid between the first () and the second () part is permitted, and a third position which causes the second movable member () to close the first port () and the third movable member () to close the third port () to prevent any substantial flow of fluid through either the first port () or the third port (), wherein the second movable member () and the third movable member () are separate such that relative movement between the second movable member () and the third movable member () is permitted.

A valve assembly comprising an inner housing in which is provided a first port, a second port, and a third port, and a valve member assembly which is movable between a first position, a second position, and a third position. An outer housing is separate from and encloses at least part of the inner housing, the outer housing having a first port and a second port, the Inner housing and outer housing each being provided with first mating parts, which engage to provide a substantially fluid tight seal while enclosing a conduit for fluid communication between the first port of the inner housing and the first port of the outer housing, and second mating parts, which engage to provide a substantially fluid tight seal while enclosing a conduit for fluid communication between the second port of the Inner housing and the second port of the outer housing.

A valve assembly including a housing (') provided with an inlet port (&#x2032;), a delivery port (&#x2032;), and an exhaust port (&#x2032;), the valve assembly further including a first movable element (&#x2032;), a first valve member (&#x2032;) and a second valve member (&#x2032;), the first movable element (&#x2032;) being engageable with the first valve member (&#x2032;), engagement of the first valve member (&#x2032;) and first movable element (&#x2032;) substantially preventing flow of fluid between the inlet port (&#x2032;) and the delivery port (&#x2032;), and the first movable element (&#x2032;) also being engageable with the second valve member (&#x2032;), engagement of the second valve member (&#x2032;) with the first movable element (&#x2032;) substantially preventing flow of fluid between the delivery port (&#x2032;) and the exhaust port (&#x2032;), the valve assembly further including a second movable element (&#x2032;) which divides the housing (&#x2032;) into a control chamber (&#x2032;) and a main chamber (&#x2032;) and which is movable relative to the housing (&#x2032;) under the influence of fluid pressure in the control chamber (&#x2032;) and main chamber (&#x2032;), wherein the first valve member (&#x2032;) extends from the housing (&#x2032;) towards the first movable element (&#x2032;) through an aperture provided in the second movable element (&#x2032;).

A brake actuator () having a housing () in which is provided a movable brake actuating assembly (), the brake actuating assembly () being movable between a brake apply position which, in use results in the application of a brake to which the actuator () connected, and a brake release position which, in use, results in the release of the brake, the brake actuator () further including a lock () which is operable to prevent movement of the brake actuating assembly () from the brake apply position to the brake release position, the brake actuating assembly () including a first movable member (), a second movable member () and a resilient biasing element () which extends between the second movable member () and the first movable member () and which, if one of the first or second movable members () is moved relative to the other from an equilibrium separation, exerts a force tending to return the first () and second () movable members to the equilibrium separation, the brake actuator () further including compliance control chamber () between the first movable member () and the second movable member (), the compliance control chamber () having a port () and being sealed such that flow of fluid into or out of the compliance control chamber () other than through the port is substantially prevented.

Brake actuator

A braking control system comprising a first source of pressurized fluid (), a second source of pressurized fluid (), a modulator (), a brake actuator (), and a plurality of valves (), the modulator () having a supply inlet () which may be connected to either of the sources of pressurized fluid via a first fluid flow line which extends between a first one of the valves () and the supply inlet (), and a control inlet () which may be connected to either of the sources of pressurized fluid via a second fluid flow line and a second one of the valves (), a delivery port () which is connected an inlet () of the actuator (), and an exhaust outlet () which vents to a low pressure region, the modulator () being operable to move between a build position in which flow of fluid from the supply inlet () to the delivery port () is permitted while flow of fluid through the exhaust outlet () is substantially prevented, and an exhaust position in which flow of fluid between the delivery port () and the exhaust outlet () is permitted, while flow of fluid through the supply inlet () is substantially prevented, wherein a portion of the fluid flow line connecting the second source of pressurized fluid () to the first valve () also provides a proportion of the connection between the second source of pressurized fluid () and the second valve ().

Braking control system

A braking system including a brake, a brake actuator which is operable to apply a force to the brake to effect braking, an automatic braking controller, and a manually operable brake actuator control device, the brake actuator control device including a manually operable control part which is movable between a release position and an apply position and which is adapted such that movement of the control part by a user from the release position to the apply position causes the brake actuator to apply the brake and movement of the control part by a user from the apply position to the release position causes the brake actuator to release the brake, the brake actuator control device being characterized in that it further includes a control actuator which engages with the control part and which is adapted to effect movement of the control part from the release position to the apply position on receipt of an appropriate signal from the automatic braking controller.

Vehicle brake system

A brake actuator including a chamber in which is provided a movable pressure responsive element which divides the chamber into first and second compartments, the brake actuator also including a valve assembly with an inlet which is connected to a source of pressurised fluid, an outlet which is connected to a volume within the brake actuator not including the second compartment, and an exhaust port through which fluid from the volume may be released, wherein the exhaust port of the valve assembly is connected to the second compartment.

A valve assembly comprising a valve body, a first movable pressure responsive element, and a second pressure responsive movable element, wherein the valve assembly further comprises a resilient biasing element and a movable third pressure responsive element, the resilient biasing element extending between the third pressure responsive element and the valve body and the third pressure responsive element being adapted to act on both the first and second pressure responsive elements to transmit the biasing force of the resilient biasing element to both the first and second pressure responsive elements.

Pilot operated valve

A modulator comprising an inlet, an exhaust and an outlet, the modulator comprising a piston moveable in response to a control pressure in a control chamber to vary to supply of fluid under pressure to the outlet, wherein the modulator comprises a first end face and a second end face wherein the exhaust and the inlet are provided in the first end face and the outlet is provided in the second end face. The modulator further comprising a hold solenoid connected between the inlet and the control chamber, and a dump solenoid connected between the control chamber and the exhaust, wherein the connections between the hold solenoid, the exhaust and the control chamber and the connections between the dump solenoid, the control chamber and the inlet do not cross the plane of the piston.
