A solution for adaptively processing a digital image with reduced color resolution is described herein. A source device pre-processes a video frame with reduce color resolution by remapping luma components and chroma components of the video frame, and encodes the pre-processed video frame. The source device remaps a half of luma components on a scan line of the video frame onto a data channel of a source line to an encoder and remaps the other half of the luma components on the scan line to another data channel of the source line. The source device remaps the corresponding chroma components onto a third data channel of a source line. By using a data channel conventionally configured to transmit chroma components, the solution enables a video codec to adaptively encode a digital image with reduced color resolution without converting the digital image to full color resolution before the encoding.

Adaptive processing of video streams with reduced color resolution

An apparatus for use in a high-definition media interface (HDMI) source device includes an HDMI interface for transmitting video data and metadata to a sink device. The apparatus is configured to encode the metadata in an auxiliary video information (AVI) information frame (InfoFrame). The apparatus is further configured to transmit the AVI InfoFrame during a frame synchronous transmission window (FSTW) of the video data, wherein the FSTW begins during a video blanking interval (VBI) of the video data, on a first video blank pixel that immediately follows a last active video pixel of a preceding video frame or video field and ends a predetermined number of video lines after a start of the VBI.

Frame synchronous packet switching for high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) video transitions

Aspects relate to transmission of metadata from a source to a sink device, and optionally through one or more intermediaries. A source device encodes metadata into what would have been a blanking area of a field to be transmitted, according to a current video format. The source device encodes a timing for an active video data signal that is modified from a timing that would be used only for transmission of video data at a current resolution. A separate indicator from the source, or a negotiation between source and sink allows the sink to determine what part of the data indicated as being active video data is metadata, and to use that metadata for controlling aspects of the video display, and to use other parts of the received video data as video data for display. A sink can signal supported capabilities to a source.

Metadata transfer in audio video systems

A device for communications over a multimedia communication interface. The device can be a source device including a scrambling circuit that receives control data associated with multimedia data to be transmitted over the multimedia channel of the multimedia communication interface, and generates scrambled control codes based on the control data. An encoding circuit generates transition minimized control codes based on the scrambled control codes. The device transmits the transition minimized control codes to a sink device via the multimedia channel. The sink device may also decode and de-scramble the transition minimized control codes received from the source device via the multimedia channel.

Radio frequency interference reduction in multimedia interfaces

The present disclosure is related to a hardware component for communications over a multimedia communication interface. In one embodiment, a hardware component includes a disparity circuit that stores a disparity value. The disparity value indicates the disparity between the number of '1's and the number of '0's previously transmitted by the hardware component. The hardware component also includes circuitry for receiving multimedia data to be scrambled, encoded and transmitted by the hardware component. In one embodiment, the multimedia data includes video data and data island data. In one embodiment, the hardware component generates transition minimized intermediate codes based on values in the guard band data included within the video data and data island data. The hardware component generates encoded guard band codes that are transition minimized as well as direct current balanced. The hardware component transmits the encoded guard band codes over a differential pair of the multimedia communication device.

Systems and methods for block noise detection and filtering are disclosed. One embodiment includes, computing difference magnitudes in pixel values for adjacent pixels in the image. The difference magnitudes can include horizontal difference magnitudes for horizontally adjacent pixels and vertical difference magnitudes for vertically adjacent pixels. One embodiment further includes using normalized sums of the difference magnitudes to determine a set of noise characteristics of the block noise and a set of image characteristics of the image and configuring inputs to the block noise filter using the set of noise and image characteristics.

Block noise detection and filtering

A technique for reducing noise in a digital video signal is disclosed. In one embodiment, the technique involves receiving a digital signal. The digital signal can be filtered thereby generating a filtered signal. The digital signal and the filtered signal can be mixed according to a composite blend map thereby generating an optimized signal. The optimized signal can be provided as an output.

Noise cancellation

Apparatuses and methods are described for performing time base correction and frame rate conversion with respect to signals. An apparatus includes circuitry to synthesize an output video clock. The apparatus has circuitry that receives an input video synchronization signal. The apparatus has circuitry to change a frequency of the output video clock based on an intended number of video clock cycles per input vertical period and a period of the input video synchronization signal.

Time base correction and frame rate conversion

A digital image processor is provided. The digital image processor includes a deinterlacing processor that is implemented upon a digital processing unit. The deinterlacing processor is coupled to an input operable to receive an interlaced video stream, a digital memory for storing portions of the interlaced video signal, and an output operable to transmit a deinterlaced video stream. The deinterlacing processor is operable to perform frequency analysis upon the received interlaced video stream in order to generate the deinterlaced video stream having reduced motion artifacts.

Method and apparatus for detecting frequency in digital video images

A portable DVD player includes a generally thin prismatic enclosure having a first major surface, a second major surface separated from the first major surface, and side surfaces connecting the first major surface to the second major surface. At least a portion of the first major surface includes a video display. The enclosure further includes a DVD entry port such that a DVD can be inserted into the enclosure. A digital processing system within the enclosure includes a decoder, a deinterlacer, and a display controller. The decoder receives signals from a DVD inserted into the enclosure to provide a decoded, interlaced video signal, the deinterlacer converts the interlaced video signal to a deinterlaced video signal, and the display controller uses the deinterlaced video signal to provide progressively scanned video on the video display. Preferably, the portable DVD player is both mechanically and electronically isolated for physical shocks to the player.

A digital image enhancer includes a deinterlacing processor receptive to an interlaced video stream. The deinterlacing processor includes a first deinterlacer and a second deinterlacer and provides a deinterlaced video stream. The digital image enhancer also includes a video output processor receptive to the output of the deinterlaced video stream to provide a scaled, deinterlaced video stream. A portable DVD player including the digital video enhancer has a generally thin prismatic enclosure having a first major surface, a second major surface separated from said first major surface, and side surfaces connecting the first major surface to the second major surface. At least a portion of the first major surface includes a video display, and the enclosure includes a DVD entry port such that a DVD can be inserted into the enclosure.
