A method and apparatus for synchronizing a data stream that contains video data in which the video data includes frames. As frames are being processed, a number of frames processed is identified along with a number of frames dropped during processing. A synchronization speed is identified using the number of frames processed and the number of frames dropped. A frame is selectively dropped from the data stream based on the synchronization speed.

Thresholds are employed to control the processing of video and audio data in a data stream. Video data is decoded in response to a comparison of audio and video data to threshold values. Method and apparatus for efficiently processing an audio and video data stream

A method in a data processing system for locating a correct synchronization point in a data stream containing a plurality of video data packets and a plurality of audio data packets. A data stream is monitored for an audio synchronization factor within an audio data packet and for a video synchronization factor within a video data packet. In response to detecting a video synchronization factor in the video data packet, a first audio data packet from the plurality of audio data packets after the video data packet is examined to determine whether the first audio data packet contains an audio synchronization factor. In response to detecting an audio synchronization factor in the audio data packet, a data packet immediately following the audio data packet is examined to determine whether the data packet is a video data packet containing a video synchronization factor. The synchronization point is located in the video data packet in response detecting an audio synchronization factor in the first audio data packet after the video data packet containing the video synchronization factor. The synchronization point is located in the audio data packet in response to detecting the video synchronization factor in a video data packet immediately after the audio data packet. The synchronization point is used to set a start point to begin presentation of the audio and video data from the data stream.

Method and apparatus for finding a correct synchronization point within a data stream

A method and apparatus for processing a transport stream. A transport stream is received in a data processing system in which the transport stream contains data packets. These data packets include audio data and video data. Data from the data packets in the transport stream are placed into a data packet having a selected size. The selected size of the data packet is limited using a threshold and data from the transport stream, wherein the selected sized of the data packet is optimized for processing within the data processing system.

Method and apparatus for coalescing and packetizing data

An improved method and apparatus for processing a data stream containing multiple data packets, which can contain audio or video data. The present invention parses a data stream until it reaches the start of a packet containing audio or video data. This data is bundled by the present invention. For data packets crossing over multiple buffers, multiple bundles are created. One bundle for packets crossing multiple buffers can be made if the data it maps to can be coalesced into a discrete continuous buffer. Information is associated with this bundle containing the first and last buffer indexes such that when the bundle is consumed, the corresponding buffers can be released. Otherwise, a separate bundle will be created for each separate buffer until the end of the packet is reached and when all bundles for an associated buffer are consumed then the buffer can be released.
