Methods, systems and devices are provided for presenting event feedback information regarding participants to an event. A first radio of a first participant device carried by a first participant receives a first checkpoint communication from a checkpoint device at a first checkpoint located along a first course of the event. The first checkpoint communication includes a first checkpoint identifier and a first event time reflecting when the first participant crossed the first checkpoint. A first checkpoint event time is determined based upon the first checkpoint identifier and the first event time. Also, the first checkpoint event time is displayed on the first participant device. Further, a checkpoint device and an event server may be used to in presenting the event feedback information.

Real-time event feedback

A compact antenna system that provides an antenna capable of transmitting and/or receiving radio signals configured on a flexible substrate material supporting user control interface buttons. In an embodiment, an antenna may be formed on a user control interface button flex between the wire traces used to couple the user control interface buttons to a printed circuit board. In order to prevent the interference on the antenna that may be caused when current passes through the wire traces coupling the user control interface buttons to the printed circuit board, an RF choke (i.e., LC filter) circuit and bypass capacitors may be configured along each wire trace. In another embodiment, the wire trace coupling a user control interface button to the printed circuit board may be configured to serve the dual purposes of coupling the user control interface button to the printed circuit board; and functioning as an antenna capable of transmitting and/or receiving wireless radio signals.

Embodiments are described in connection with transferring data traditionally communicated through a wired link over a high-speed wireless link. The disclosed embodiments provide the wired and/or wireless data communication with minimal changes on the existing wired architecture. According to an embodiment is an apparatus for communicating wirelessly over a traditional wired link. The apparatus includes a transmitter comprising a host and a first portion of a client connected by a wired link and a receiver comprising a second portion of the client. According to some embodiments, the apparatus can include a query module that determines an operation rate based in part on a rate supported by a medium access control and a retransmission statistic and an assigner module that assigns a communication to a wired protocol or a wireless protocol.

Wireless architecture for a traditional wire-based protocol

A method and apparatus to facilitate the locating and tracking of a wireless terminal, which may be advantageously used for E-911 service. The terminal may be directed to transmit a beacon for certain events, such as in connection with a 911 call. The beacon has a specific format known by the wireless network, and may be periodically or continuously transmitted. The beacon may be transmitted using various schemes. In a first scheme, the terminal transmits the beacon only when directed to do so by a designated network entity (e.g., the PSAP). In a second scheme, the terminal transmits the beacon in conjunction with the 911 call, and is thereafter directed to terminate the beacon transmission by the designated network entity. The beacon allows the terminal to be accurately located even if it has moved or is physically located in an enclosed or 'not-so-obvious' location.
