Apparatuses and methods can include non-destructive electro-optic interference or protection systems as well non-destructive directed energy systems, a control system, and an analysis system for determining an optical system of interest and generating degradation or disruption effects using various equipment items and machine learning systems. A method and system for determining depth of an image using a single imager and a lens having a variable focal length is provided. The system comprises a microfluidic lens having a variable focal length controlled by a lens controller and an imager receiving an image of an object from the lens, wherein the imager is configured to receive a first image comprising a first plurality of pixels from the lens at a first focal length and a second image comprising a second plurality of pixels from the lens at a second focal length, the second focal length being different than the first focal length, non-volatile memory, wherein the first image and the second image are stored in the non-volatile memory, a depth module configured to determine a distance between the lens and the object based by a comparison of the first image of the object and the second image of the object.

Three dimensional moving pictures with a single imager and microfluidic lens

A method of operating a camera with a microfluidic lens to identify a depth of an object in image data generated by the camera has been developed. The camera generates an image with the object in focus, and a second image with the object out of focus. An image processor generates a plurality of blurred images from image data of the focused image, and identifies blur parameters that correspond to the object in the second image. The depth of the object from the camera is identified with reference to the blur parameters.

System and method for three dimensional imaging

In one embodiment, a system for computing class identifiers for three-dimensional pixel data has been developed. The system comprises a plurality of class identifying processors, and a data grouper operatively connected to a first memory. Each class identifying processor has a plurality of inputs for at least one pixel value and a plurality of class identifiers for pixel values neighboring the at least one pixel value and each class identifying processor is configured to generate a class identifier for the at least one pixel value input with reference to the class identifiers for the neighboring pixel values. The data grouper is configured to retrieve a plurality of pixel values from the first memory and a plurality of class identifiers for pixel values neighboring the retrieved pixel values.

System and method for segmentation of three-dimensional image data

A method and apparatus for controlling an MPEG video media recording device to automatically identify and selectively skip segments of a video signal, such as commercial advertisements, during a recording session. During an MPEG video data recording session the system continuously monitors the video data being recorded to detect a scene change occurring over one or more image fields. In response to a detected scene change, the system stores in a file a time and record location on the media corresponding to the occurrence of the scene change. Depending upon the time interval between several of the detected scene changes, the system identifies a corresponding video segment as either a commercial advertisement or a chapter boundary. By identifying the segments in this way, the playback presentation can then be selectively controlled.

Commercial skip and chapter delineation feature on recordable media

A method and apparatus for preventing unauthorized use of DVDs on a DVD ROM drive. The method comprises a DVD disc that includes special data processing. When the DVD is replayed on a standard DVD ROM drive the invention causes the output of the DVD ROM drive to be erroneous, such that the computer cannot use the data. According to the invention, when encoding a disc, the error correction and/or error detection bits, check bytes, are moved into the normal or main data area. When this scrambled data is output from a standard DVD ROM drive, the data in the check byte area is lost and the information is not useable. For authorized use, this scrambling is reversed before sending video and/or audio data to the MPED decoder and AC-3 decoder respectively.
