Disclosed herein is a technology for automatically triggering delivery of a digital receipt for one or more financial transactions based on a change in location of the user or a time. In at least some embodiments, the technology includes a payment system detecting a change in location of a user or a change in time and determining, based on the change, that a payment transaction has occurred. The payment system then causes presentation of digital receipt for the payment transaction on a mobile device of a customer.

Automatic triggering of receipt delivery

A technique is disclosed for generating an interactive digital receipt on a device associated with a customer, where the receipt offers transaction information associated with a transaction and one or more interactive components. In one embodiment, one or more servers of a payment service generates the interactive digital receipt. The interactive digital receipt includes an interactive feedback component as one of the one or more interactive components. A determination can be made by the one or more servers that feedback was received within a timeframe satisfying a timeframe criterion. Based on determining that the feedback was received within the timeframe, a reward can be transmitted by the one or more servers to the device associated with the customer.

An appointment and payment handling system may operate to handle payments for appointments based on user locations at times associated with appointments. The appointment and payment handling system may determine if a location of a customer device associated with a customer associated with an appointment matches a location associated with the appointment. If the locations match, the appointment and payment handling system may create a payment record for a payment to the merchant from the customer based on the determination that the customer location matches the location associated with the appointment.

Introduced here is a technology that enables a merchant to create customer-targeted, customized communications by use of a merchant platform executing on a financial service system. The merchant platform generates content for communications that is based on a particular customer segment. The customer segment includes one or more groups of customers segmented based on one or more attributes associated with each group of customers. An attribute is determined based on data collected by the financial service system, where the data is related to transaction data of a plurality of merchants.

A technique is disclosed for providing an interactive digital receipt on a user device, where the receipt offers transaction information associated with a financial transaction and one or more interactive components including an interactive tipping component that allows a customer to add a gratuity amount for the financial transaction. The interactive digital receipt is generated in response to an occurrence of the particular financial transaction. In one embodiment, the interactive tipping component is time-based and is associated with a timeframe that defines a time period for which the customer may submit the gratuity amount. Based on determining that no input to the interactive tipping component has been received within the timeframe, a payment is processed for a transaction amount and a default gratuity amount.

Disclosed herein is a technology for automatically triggering delivery of a digital receipt for a financial transaction based on a previously stored electronic address for receiving digital receipts. In at least some embodiments, the technology includes a digital receipt system working in coordination with one or more merchants' POS device to deliver receipts for current transactions based on a previously stored electronic address from past transactions. The first time a user utilizes a payment instrument in a transaction, the system associates and stores the payment-instrument information with an identifier of the user. The appointment and payment handling system may notify the merchant of nearby customers and generate a promotion to send to the customer devices. Based on receiving merchant approval to offer the unbooked appointment block to the nearby customers, the system may cause presentation of the promotion and availability of an appointment on the customer devices. Upon receiving an acceptance of the appointment offer, the appointment and payment handling system may schedule the appointment.

A technique is disclosed for generating an interactive digital receipt on a user device, where the receipt offers an engagement platform for merchants and customers to interact on a continuous basis. The interactive digital receipt is generated in response to an occurrence of a particular financial transaction. The receipt includes a plurality of time-based interactive components to enable the merchant and the customer to interact with one another. The plurality of time-based interactive components includes a promotion component, a tipping component, a feedback component, and a loyalty rewards component. Each component is associated with a timeframe which defines a time period for which the customer may interact with the component. Content presented via each component changes corresponding to the time period. The time period can range from a limited time period to an unlimited time period.

Interactive digital platform

An appointment and payment handling system may operate to handle payments for appointments. In advance of an appointment, the appointment and payment handling system may send a reminder to customer devices of the customers associated with the appointment, and then receive a response that includes a requested change to the appointment. The requested change may comprise a net increase in the number of customers associated with the appointment and an updated cost-splitting arrangement for dividing appointment costs between the customers. The appointment and payment handling system may seek and receive approval of the change from the merchant. Upon determining that the appointment is completed, the appointment and payment handling system may process payment based at least in part on the updated cost-splitting arrangement.
