Methods of controlling surface systems described herein include acquiring data during operation of a surface system that handles fluid using sub-systems; generating a parameter value for one of the sub-systems using at least a portion of the data and a model that models the sub-system using historical data that include operational adjustment data for operational adjustments responsive to conditions; and automatically controlling the one of the sub-systems using the parameter value.

Systems and methods for controlling well fluid equipment

Systems and methods for using propellant as a force generator in component actuation are disclosed. One embodiment may take the form of a method including deploying at least one component to a subsea location, controlling operation of the at least one component using a control system, and igniting a propellant. The ignition of the propellant actuates the at least one component. Another embodiment may take the form of a subsea system including a control system, a propellant system in communication with the control system, and a component in communication with the propellant system. The propellant system is ignitable by the control system upon receipt of a ignite signal and upon losing communication with the control system after being placed in an armed state by the control system. The component is actuatable by the propellant system after ignition of the propellant system.

Propellant energy to operate subsea equipment

A tensions compensator assembly for a slip type joint in an offshore work string. The assembly includes a chamber at the joint which is constructed in a manner to offset or minimize a pressure differential in a production channel that runs through the work string. Thus, potentially very high pressures running through the string are less apt to prematurely force actuation and expansiveness of the slip joint. Rather, the expansive movement of the joint is more properly responsive to heave, changes in offshore platform elevation and other outside forces of structural concern.

An apparatus includes an engagement device to be disposed on a landing string. The engagement device includes a retracted state to allow the apparatus to be run inside a riser and an expanded state to engage the riser to secure the apparatus to the riser. The apparatus further includes an actuator assembly to be disposed on the landing string. The actuator assembly is remotely actuatable from a sea surface to rotate a tubing of the landing string relative to the engagement device to rotate the landing string to orient a tubing hanger assembly.

The piston actuates the downhole tool, and the primary control subsystem may be connected to at least one hydraulic line in order to move the piston in response to pressure that is communicated to the tool via the hydraulic line(s). The override subsystem may be connected to the hydraulic line(s) to override the primary control subsystem and move the piston in response to pressure communicated to the tool via the hydraulic line(s).

A reset member can be disposed on a second portion of the body. A conduit can be formed within a sidewall of the body. The conduit can be located between the first and second portions of the body. A pressure relief port can be disposed at a first end of the conduit; and a first flow port can be disposed at a second end of the conduit. The pressure relief port and first flow port can be in communication with an outer diameter of the body.

System and method for controlling multiple well tools

A technique is provided for utilizing a hydraulic fluid metering control module in cooperation with a downhole component. The downhole component is shifted via hydraulic fluid delivered through first and/or second control lines to an actuator of the downhole component. The hydraulic fluid metering control module works in cooperation with the actuator and the control lines to enable shifting of the actuator according to a controlled, incremental process.

System and method for controlling a downhole actuator

A valve that is usable with a well includes an indexer and a closing mechanism. The indexer includes a profile to establish a sequence of open settings for the valve, and the indexer is adapted to respond to first control stimuli to transition the valve through the settings according to the sequence. The closing mechanism is adapted to operate independently of the sequence in response to a second control stimulus to close the valve.

Embodiments of the present invention relate to a volumetric compensating annular bellows used to compensate two fluid volumes by an annular displacement. This is achieved using a bellows welded on to a tube with a varying shape radius. A bellows is arranged within the annulus and is deformable in an annular direction in response to fluid volume expansion. The bellows can be used in several oilfield applications for fluid compensation.

The invention also relates to a device for characterizing a multi-phase fluid coming from a deposit () through which at least one well () passes, said device comprising: a source unit () for emitting gamma rays through said multi-phase fluid, and a detector unit () having a scintillator crystal () receiving said gamma rays after they have passed through the fluid. According to the invention, said device further comprises a tool holder () of the invention, and the detector unit () is positioned in the axial cavity () of said tool holder so that the scintillator crystal () is situated in the first radial opening () in said tool holder.
