A protective apparatus for a distribution line conductor includes an elongate tube configured to be installed on the conductor and a plurality of annular members concentrically positioned on the tube and configured to rotate independently of each other. The tube has a longitudinal axis and defines a longitudinally extending chamber configured to receive the conductor. The tube has opposite first and second ends and a longitudinally extending opening from the first end to the second end that facilitates installation of the elongate tube on the conductor. Each annular member includes an outer surface and a plurality of circumferentially-spaced apart members extending outwardly from the outer surface. Each annular member includes a longitudinally extending slot that is configured to align with the longitudinally extending opening of the tube to facilitate installation of the elongate tube and the plurality of annular members as an assembly on the conductor.

Power line protective apparatus having rotatable members

Provided is an apparatus for wildlife deterrence on a high voltage conductor. The apparatus includes an electrical insulator including an electrically insulating material without a conductive material. The electrical insulator includes a first surface, a second surface that is opposite the first surface, a first edge that is between the first surface and the second surface, an intersection between the first edge and the first and second surfaces defining outer edges of the first and second surfaces, respectively, and a second edge that is opposite the first edge and that is between the first surface and the second surface, an intersection between the second edge and the first and second surfaces defining interior edges of the first and second surfaces, respectively. The apparatus further includes an electrical conductor that is arranged on the first surface of the electrical insulator and is spaced apart from the second edge.

An insulating cover for an L-shaped busbar includes first and second opposing longitudinal edge portions and a longitudinal groove between the first and second longitudinal edge portions. The cover is configured to wrap around the busbar in an installed position with the first and second longitudinal edge portions overlapping, with the second longitudinal edge portion adjacent and generally parallel to a leg of the busbar and with the first longitudinal edge portion in the longitudinal groove of the cover.

A protective cover assembly for an electrical power distribution line conductor mounted on a horizontally oriented post insulator includes an insulator cover and a retaining pin. The insulator cover includes a cover body defining an insulator cavity configured to receive the insulator and a mounting bracket integral with the cover body. The mounting bracket defines a bracket slot having a bottom entry opening configured to receive the horizontally oriented insulator to couple the cover body to the insulator. The retaining pin is configured to close off the bottom entry opening to secure the insulator cover to the insulator. The cover body is formed of a flexible first material and the mounting bracket is formed of a second material that is more rigid than the first material.

An apparatus includes an electrical insulator including an electrically insulating material without a conductive material. The electrical insulator includes a first surface, a second surface, a first edge that is between the first surface and the second surface, an intersection between the first edge and the first and second surfaces, and a second edge that is opposite the first edge and that is between the first surface and the second surface. The apparatus further includes a connected electrical conductor that is arranged on the first surface of the electrical insulator and is spaced apart from the second edge and an electrically conductive connector that is configured to electrically couple the connected electrical conductor to the conductive terminal of the high voltage insulator.

Apparatus for electric stress grading with wildlife guard for electrical power distribution equipment

A wildlife guard apparatus for an electrical insulator body includes at least one guard assembly. Each guard assembly includes a guard member and a base wall member secured to the guard member. The at least one guard assembly is configured or configurable to form an enclosure defining a chamber. In the enclosure configuration, the at least one guard member defines an end opening communicating with the chamber and the at least one base wall member extends across the end opening to close at least a portion thereof. The enclosure is configured to receive the insulator body such that the insulator body includes a first portion and a second portion, the first portion extending through the end opening and adjacent the at least one base wall member, and the second portion being disposed in the chamber. The at least one guard member is formed of a first material and the at least one base wall member is formed of a second material that is softer than the first material.

A protective conductor cover for a distribution line conductor includes an elongate cover body having a longitudinal axis and including first and second opposed, elongate sidewalls. The sidewalls define an axially extending cover channel terminating at axially opposed end openings, and an axially extending bottom opening communicating with the cover channel and terminating at the axially opposed end openings. The protective conductor cover further includes an integral conductor retention tab having a base end attached to the first sidewall and extending laterally from the first sidewall into the cover channel to a free terminal end of the conductor retention tab. The conductor retention tab is configured to elastically deflect and secure the conductor in the cover channel when the conductor is inserted into the cover channel through the bottom opening.

A wildlife guard assembly for an electrical insulator body includes at least three guard members serially connected to one another such that at least one of the guard members is moveable relative to the others. Each of the guard members has a respective shell body. The guard members are selectively movable between an open position, wherein the guard members are configured to receive the insulator body, and a closed position, wherein the shell bodies of the at least three guard members collectively form an enclosure defining a chamber to receive the insulator body such that at least a portion of the insulator body is enclosed by the enclosure.

Wildlife guard assemblies, modular systems and methods for using the same

A cover is provided for acute angled insulator pair arrangement, such as a V-switch. The insulator pair arrangement includes a first insulator and a second insulator, the insulators extending relative to each other at an acute angle from first ends thereof. The cover includes a first cover member and a second cover member. The second cover member is configured to mate with the first cover member to define an enclosure that encloses the first ends of the insulators and a region therebetween. The enclosure extends to a position proximate an end skirt of each of the insulators closest to the first ends thereof without extending over the end skirts.

Covers for power distribution line insulators

A cover for a distribution line conductor includes a cover body defining a channel extending along a lengthwise axis and adapted to receive the conductor. A unitarily formed attachment structure adjoins the cover body. The attachment structure includes first and second jaws positioned adjacent the channel. The first and second jaws are positioned at different locations along a jaw axis parallel to the lengthwise axis and, in a closed position, overlap one another across the jaw axis. The first and second jaws are relatively deflectable from the closed position to an open position to permit passage of the conductor therebetween and into the channel and the first and second jaws can thereafter return toward the closed position to secure the conductor in the channel.

Covers for distribution lines coupled to an insulator include a main body of a flexible polymer material. The main body is configured to be positioned adjacent the insulator and a line coupled to the insulator. At least one connector member is connected to the main body. The connector member is a rigid material configured to couple to either the insulator or the line to attach the cover.

Flexible distribution line cover and method of installing the same

Wildlife guards for surrounding electrical insulator bushings and electrical conductors extending therefrom include pivotally connected first and second cover portions. Each cover portion includes a respective lever arm configured such that when a force is applied to the first and second lever arms by a portion of an electrical insulator bushing, the first and second cover portions pivot together into engagement in a closed position surrounding the electrical insulator bushing and a portion of the electrical conductor extending from the electrical insulator bushing. A plurality of flexible fingers extending from adjacent edge portions of the cover portions allow an electrical conductor to extend therethrough while preventing the ingress of animals.
