Tubular prostheses are provided for use in airways, upper digestive, and urinary tracts. Each of these uses has its own specific sets of biological specifications, based on what it must contain and exclude and the physical and chemical pressures and stresses to which it is subjected. The prostheses may be made from allogeneic cells. Thus they can be manufactured and stored prior to an individual's personal need arising.

Tubular prostheses

The present invention relates to the discovery that different stem cell types (e.g., bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (RM-MSC) and adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AT-MSC)) undergo large changes in lung epithelial marker 5 expression depending on the substrate on which they are cultured. The present invention includes methods and compositions for differentiating of mesenchymal stem cells, such as bone marrow and adipose tissue mesenchymal stem cells, into lung cells, populations of lung cells, and methods of alleviating or treating a lung defect in a subject in need thereof.

Epithelial cell differentiation of human mesenchymal stromal cells

The present invention provides compositions, systems and methods for treating diabetes in a subject. The composition of the present invention includes a decellularized vascular graft, a biocompatible hydrogel encasement with tunable rigidity, and a plurality of cells such as pancreatic islet cells.

Bioartificial vascular pancreas

Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to apparatuses and methods for a pulsing system which can be configured to provide pressure pulses to a fluid communication tube to/from a bioreactor (for example). Such a system may comprise one or more of, and preferably a plurality of a pulsing motor, a compression plate, one or more fluid communications tubes comprising a biomedia fluid tube configured to direct biomedia fluid into and out of one or more bioreactors, and/or an intra-luminal fluid tube configured to direct intra-luminal fluid through a mandrel tube provided in each bioreactor, and one and/or another of a cam, gearing, and/or actuator configured to repetitively moving the compression plate so as to repetitively compress and release at least a portion of a respective intra-luminal fluid tube for a respective bioreactor to effect a temporary pressure increase (distension or strain) in a respective mandrel-tube according to the predetermined time period.

System, apparatuses, devices and methods for straining a cultivated tissue

The present invention provides compositions and methods of preparing airway cells. In one aspect, an epithelial airway cell derived from an induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell characterized by expression of airway cell surface markers and an ability to proliferate is described. In another aspect, methods of differentiating an iPS into an epithelial airway cell is provided. Engineered lungs, methods of making such engineered lungs comprising the epithelial airway cells and treating respiratory disorders are also disclosed.

Compositions and methods of preparing airway cells

Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to systems, apparatuses, devices and methods for tissue cultivating. Such systems may comprise a plurality of bioreactors, each bioreactor comprising a bag having a mandrel tube arranged therein, and a fluid management system for managing fluid flow among the plurality of bioreactors. The fluid management system can include at least one intra-luminal pump, configured to flow intra-luminal fluid in a first direction in the bioreactors, at least one media pump, configured to flow biomedia fluid in the bioreactors in a second direction opposite to the first direction, and a plurality of valves and/or clamps to effect at least one of filling, flowing, cessation of flow, and draining of at least one of the intra-luminal fluid and biomedia fluid tubes among the bioreactors.

Fluid systems, apparatuses, devices and methods of management thereof for cultivating tissue

The present invention relates to compositions comprising a decellularized tissue. The present invention also provides an engineered three dimensional lung tissue exhibiting characteristics of a natural lung tissue. The engineered tissue is useful for the study of lung developmental biology and pathology as well as drug discovery.

The present invention provides constructs including a tubular biodegradable polyglycolic acid scaffold, wherein the scaffold may be coated with extracellular matrix proteins and substantially acellular. The constructs can be utilized as an arteriovenous graft, a coronary graft, a peripheral artery bypass conduit, or a urinary conduit. The present invention also provides methods of producing such constructs.

Tissue-engineered constructs

The present invention includes methods and compositions for increasing longevity of a cell and increasing cellular resistance to stress. In certain embodiments, the invention includes a method to induce gene expression of a homolog of Pachytene Checkpoint 2 (pch-2) or bmk-1 gene. The present invention also includes methods to treat oxidative stress or induce cellular death or apoptosis by administering a composition comprising a modulator of pch-2 or bmk-1 homolog gene expression.

Compositions and methods of increasing longevity or treating cellular stress

Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to apparatuses and methods for fabricating tubular structures from a combination of fibrous materials for use in, for example, tissue engineering scaffold applications. These materials may also be useful in other biological or non-biological applications in which such tubular fibrous structures may be applicable, examples including conventional medical devices, filters, fiber optics, cable wraps, geotextiles, batteries, fuel cells, armor, and other diverse applications.
