A composition is provided comprising a cellulose ester component that comprises at least one cellulose ester; and an elastomeric component that comprises at least one elastomer, where the elastomeric component comprises 30 wt % or more of the composition, and where the composition is thermoplastic. Processes for producing the compositions as well as articles made using these compositions, such as automotive interior components, are also provided.

A method of manufacturing a molded article by a low shear manufacturing process that includes: placing a solid polyester in a mold having mold surfaces; heating said polyester until it becomes molten; dispersing said molten polyester over said mold surfaces; solidifying said molten polyester to form a solid molded article; and removing said molded article from said mold; where the polyester is obtained by polymerization of dimethylcyclohexane dicarboxylic acid, cyclohexane dimethanol, polytetramethylene ether glycol and branching agent and has a steep melting curve evidenced by a puddling curve slope of &#x2212;2 to &#x2212;10.

Copolyesters for use in low shear melt applications

An interlayer structure having a cellulose ester layer for use in bilayer laminates is described herein. The cellulose ester layer provides rigidity and support to multilayer interlayers comprising an array of different layers. Due to the diverse properties of the cellulose ester layers, the present interlayers can be useful in producing structural laminates having high stiffness and which possess good optical clarity for a variety of applications, including outdoor structural applications and HMI devices.

The invention provides a composition comprising at least the following components: A) a first composition comprising a first ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin block copolymer consisting of ethylene and C-C&#x3b1;-olefin comonomer; and where the first composition has a density from 0.87 g/cc to 0.90 g/cc, and a melt index (I) from 6.0 to 20.0 g/10 min; B) at least one filler that is capable of being excited by an alternating electromagnetic field at a frequency greater than, or equal to 10 MHz; C) at least one flame retardant selected from the group consisting of i) from 30.0 to 50.0 wt % of one or more non-halogen, inorganic flame retardant compounds, based on the weight of the composition; and ii) from 8.0 to 30.0 wt % of one or more halogen-containing flame retardant compounds, based on the weight of the composition; and D) at least one polar polymer.

High frequency weldable ethylene-based polymer compositions with good flame retardancy

The instant invention provides a polymeric blend composition, injection molded articles, films and sheets made therefrom. The polymeric blend composition according to the present invention comprises: (a) a first component selected from the group consisting of an ethylene/alpha-olefin copolymer and a propylene/ethylene copolymer; wherein said ethylene/alpha-olefin co-polymer has density in the range of from 0.857 to 0.902 g/cm, a melt index (I) in the range of from 0.5 to 30 g/10 minutes, a DCS melting point temperature (second heat) in the range of from 40 to 99&#xb0; C., a heat of fusion in the range of from 18 to 108 Jg, and a crystallinity in the range of from 6 to 37 weight percent; and wherein propylene/ethylene copolymer has a melt flow rate in the range of from 1 to 30 g/10 minutes, a DCS melting point temperature (second heat) in the range of from 55 to 85&#xb0; C., a heat of fusion in the range of from 10 to 40 Jg, and a crystallinity in the range of from 6 to 21 weight percent; and (b) less than 40 percent by weight of a second component comprising an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer comprising from 9 to 40 percent by weight of units derived from vinyl acetate, and wherein said ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer has a melt index (I) in the range of from 0.2 to 20 g/10 minutes; wherein &#x394;is less than 0.003, and wherein &#x394;is the absolute value of the difference between the refractive index of (a) and (b); and wherein dielectric loss factor of the polymeric blend composition is, equal to, or greater than, 0.024, for example in the range of greater than 0.024 to 0.15.

A dielectrically-heatable inventive method employing a polyolefin-based formulation including at least 5 weight percent of a zeolite, ion exchanged with a Group I or II metal, wherein the zeolite includes 21 or less wt % of water, based on zeolite weight, measured as LOI at 575&#xb0; C. for 1 hour; and a base polymer selected from certain homogeneously branched linear or substantially linear ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin or homogeneously branched propylene/?-olefin copolymers copolymers, provided that the base polymer has a melt temperature less than 100&#xb0; C. This formulation may be used to prepare a high frequency (HF) welded article having improved failure and welding strength properties, particularly a weld strength in excess of 7 lb/in (1.23 N/mm).

Thermoplastic elastomer compositions including at least one elastomeric component and at least one semi-crystalline polymer are provided. In particular, thermoplastic elastomer composition characterized by an SRI less than or equal to 1.6 at 10000 Pa s, and less than 4.5 at 1000 Pa s for compositions with TMA at 1000 &#x3bc;m greater than 85&#xb0; C. are provided. Also provided are articles made from the thermoplastic elastomeric compositions.

The instant invention provides a polymer composition suitable for clear graphic cling film applications, method of producing the same, articles made therefrom, and methods for making such articles. The polymer composition suitable for clear graphic cling film applications, according to the present invention, comprises: (a) a polyolefin composition selected from the group consisting of a propylene-based composition as described herein, and an ethylene-based composition as described herein, and (b) one or more alkyl phosphate-based release agent; wherein when said polyolefin composition is formed into a clear graphic cling film having a 7 (&#xb1;2) mils, said clear graphic cling film has a haze of less than 4 percent, for example from 0.3 to 4 percent, measured according to ASTM-D 1003.

This invention relates to polymer compositions comprising at least one ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin interpolymer and a branched and/or high melt strength polypropylene, methods of making the polymer compositions, and molded, overmolded, extruded into profiles or thermoformed products made from the polymer compositions. The polymer compositions may have reduced post-thermoformed sheet and post extruded (profile) gloss properties and/or improved scratch-resistant properties.

The invention provides polyolefin blend compositions of polar and/or non-polar polymers, with at least one functionalized polyolefin polymer selected from the group consisting of: amine functionalized, hydroxyl functionalized, imide functionalized, anhydride functionalized, or carboxylic acid functionalized polyolefin polymers. Functionalized olefin polymers, compositions and articles prepared therefrom, and methods for making the same

Thermoplastic compositions including component C, an ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin interpolymer wherein the interpolymer has a Mooney Viscosity (ML 1+4, 125&#xb0; C.) greater than, or equal to 55 and a &#x394;Hf greater than, or equal to 36 J/g; and component D, a high density polyethylene (HDPE) are provided. In particular, the thermoplastic compositions are characterized by the ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin interpolymer which is an ethylene/a-olefin/diene interpolymer having a rheology ratio (V0.1/V 100) at 190&#xb0; C. greater than, or equal to 25. Also are provided the articles comprising the thermoplastic compositions.

The adhesion between a low surface energy (i.e., nonpolar) material, e.g., a polyolefin such as polyethylene, and a high surface energy (i.e., polar) material, e.g., a polyester, polyurethane, polycarbonate or polylactic acid, is promoted by blending with the nonpolar material typically from 15 to less than 50 wt % of a diol-based thermoplastic polyurethane (d-TPU), e.g., a polydiene diol-based TPU, based on the combined weight of the nonpolar material and the d-TPU. The promoted adhesion allows for the effective painting, printing, over-molding or HF-welding of a nonpolar substrate, e.g., a polyolefin film, with a polar coating, e.g., a paint, ink, etc. Aqueous dispersions can also be made from the blend of nonpolar material and d-TPU.

Articles comprising nonpolar polyolefin and polyurethane, and methods for their preparation and use

The invention is directed to compositions comprising an elastomer component and a propylene component, and in which the elastomer component comprises at least one ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin polymer, optionally containing a diene, and the polypropylene component comprises at least one branched polypropylene. Preferably, the elastomer component has a melt tan delta between about 0.7 and about 8, as measured by parallel plate rheometer at 0.1 rad/sec, 190&#xb0; C., and 15 percent strain; and the ratio of the 'melt tan delta of the elastomer component' to the 'melt tan delta of the propylene component' is from 0.5 to 4. The invention also provides for method of making such compositions, and to low gloss articles prepared from the same. The inventive compositions are particularly suitable for fabricating thermoformed sheeting with reduced gloss.
