A photoprotective composition can be utilized for a variety of cosmetic compositions. A photoprotective composition comprises one or more photoactive agents, and a synergistic combination of polymers. The photoprotective composition can provide a substantially a complete film. The photoprotective composition may comprise an alkyl dimethicone, a polymer with ester linkages, and a phenyl silicone or stearate. The photoprotective composition can further comprise abietic acid and ester derivatives. The photoprotective composition can be a liquid such that it is easily and consistently dispensed from a bottle, pump or spray.

Synergistic photoprotective compositions

The present disclosure provides a way to enhance the photoconductivity and/or the SPF of a semiconductor. By dispersing the semiconductor with a compound having multiple phenyl groups in a polar carrier oil, the semiconductor exhibits greatly improved photoconductivity and/or SPF over dispersions comprising the semiconductor alone.

Enhanced photoconductivity and SPF of semiconductors

A composition comprising a physical sunscreen, one or more adjuvants, and a carrier oil is provided. The composition also includes at least one of a compound having multiple phenyl groups, a film former or dispersant, and a silicone surfactant. The composition may also include an organic sunscreen. The combination of these ingredients exhibits an unexpected synergistic effect, in that the photoactive properties of the composition (e.g., SPF, UV absorption) are significantly higher than would be predicted based on the values for each of the components individually.

A novel three-component synergistic preservative system has zinc oxide, a phenoxyethanol component, and caprylyl glycol. The preservative system provides sufficient preservative activity without the use of other preservatives such as parabens. It provides broad spectrum activity against yeast and molds, and remains effective long term.

Enhanced photoprotective compositions and methods for the evaluation thereof

The present invention relates to clear solid compositions that may be used as the base material of a transparent candle, to the transparent candles made therefrom, and to methods of making the same. The compositions of the present invention include one or more polyamide resins present in a total amount of about 60-80% by weight of the composition, one or more solubilizers, and one or more emulsifiers.

Clear compositions for use in solid transparent candles

The present invention relates to clear solid compositions that may be used as the base material of a transparent candle, to the transparent candles made therefrom, and to methods of making the same. The compositions of the present invention comprise one or more polyamide resins, which may be present in a total amount of about 40-70% by weight of the composition; and one or more 12-hydroxystearic acid ester solvents, which may be present in a total amount of about 10-70% by weight of the composition, having the following chemical structure: ##STR1## and wherein R may by selected from the group consisting of alkyl radicals, aryl radicals, and arylalkyl radicals.

The present invention is directed to pourable fragrance-carrier compositions, and methods of preparation thereof, for use in tart candles, wherein the fragrance-carrier composition is comprised of a liquid base material of a hydrogenated polyolefin and a fragrance. The fragrance-carrier composition may be poured into the reservoir of a tart candle from which the fragrance is caused to be dispersed by the heat from a flame. More specifically, the liquid base material is comprised of a hydrogenated polyisoalkene such as hydrogenated polyisobutene.

Fragrance-carrier compositions for use in tart candles

The present invention is directed to transparent candle compositions, and methods of preparation thereof, comprised of a clear gel obtained by combining a liquid base material of a hydrogenated polyolefin, a gelling agent, and, optionally, a gel enhancing agent so as to produce either a pourable or non-pourable gel. As a representative example of the invention, the transparent candle composition is a clear gel obtained from hydrogenated polyisobutene that has a repeating unit having the following chemical structure: ##STR1## wherein the hydrogenated polyisobutene is comprised of a mixture of higher viscosity component having an average number of repeating units wherein n is about 23 and lower viscosity component having an average number of repeating units wherein n is about 6 to 8, the gelling agent is N-acyl glutamic acid diamide, and additional components may include isostearyl alcohol, dimethyl isosorbide and/or 12-hydroxystearic acid, or derivatives thereof, or additional components may include butyl stearate.
