A method for monitoring and controlling IGBT temperature in a power converter of an electrical power system includes generating a plurality of temperature signals from a plurality of switching devices via a plurality of temperature sensors. The method also includes selecting a primary switching device from the plurality of switching devices to estimate a primary temperature thereof. Further, the method includes determining the primary temperature of the primary switching device via a temperature measurement circuit communicatively coupled to the primary switching device. Moreover, the method includes comparing remaining temperature signals (or a function thereof) to the primary temperature via at least one comparator circuit. If one of the remaining temperature signals (or the function thereof) exceeds the primary temperature, the method also includes implementing a control action to address the increased temperature.

System and method for controlling multiple IGBT temperatures in a power converter of an electrical power system

There are provided methods and apparatuses for authenticating components in an electric machine. For example, there is provided a method for authenticating parts of an electric machine. The method includes fetching, using a controller, identification data associated with a set of parts and performing a first verification step on the identification data, for each part in the set. The method further includes performing a second verification step on the identification data, in response to the first verification step being successful. The second verification step includes comparing the identification data with data from a database that includes identification information associated with manufactured parts. Furthermore, the method includes, in response to one of the first verification step and the second verification step being unsuccessful, a command to disable the electric machine.

Method and system for authenticating a component in a power converter

A method of operating an electrical power distribution system including a plurality of circuit protection devices and an additional circuit protection device communicatively coupled by a communications network is described. The method includes transmitting, by each circuit protection device of the plurality of circuit protection devices, an electrical current communication to the communication network, the electrical current communication including an indication of an electrical current detected by the transmitting circuit protection device formatted according to a network communication protocol of the communication network. The additional circuit protection device receives the electrical current communications from the plurality of circuit protection devices and determines, based on the received electrical current communications, whether a ground fault condition exists in the electrical power distribution system.

The circuit protection device data is formatted according to a network communication protocol of the communication network.

A method of operating an electrical power distribution system including circuit protection devices is disclosed. Each circuit protection device includes a network interface, a processor, and a memory device. The method includes transmitting, by each device of the plurality of circuit protection devices, a network communication signal to the communication network. An approximate physical distance between the circuit protection devices is determined based at least in part on a characteristic of the network communication signals. A maintenance mode of each circuit protection device of a subset of the circuit protection devices is enabled in response to enablement of a maintenance mode of one circuit protection device of the plurality of circuit protection devices. The subset of the circuit protection devices is determined at least in part by the approximate physical distance of the circuit protection devices from the maintenance mode enabled one circuit protection device.
