A computer implemented method for managing radio resources used by UEs in a cellular communication network. The communication network includes a plurality of radio resources, each radio resource defining a dimension of a multidimensional radio space over which the communication network extends. The method is performed by a management node and includes determining that a UE fulfils a location condition with respect to a region of the communication network, and providing to the UE a distributed resource management model for the region of the communication network, the distributed resource management model having a radio coverage model including defining radio characteristics of radio zones in the region. The distributed resource management model is operable for use, by the UE, to identify a radio resource action for execution by the UE. Also disclosed are a method performed by a UE, a management node, a UE and a computer readable storage medium.

Method and apparatus for managing radio resources in a communication network

The present disclosure provides relates to methods and apparatus for handover optimization in a 5G context using reinforcement learning (RL). In contrast to the conventional handover methods, handovers between base-stations (BSs) are controlled using a centralized RL-based machine learning (ML) agent. This ML agent handles the radio measurement reports from the UEs and chooses appropriate handover actions in accordance with the RL machine learning framework to maximize a long-term utility.

Network nodes and methods performed therein for supporting handover of a wireless device

A technique for determining a list of neighbouring radio resources from signal strength measurements taken by mobile terminals is presented. Two or more signal strength measurements taken by the same mobile terminal at substantially the same time are grouped to a data set that associates, for each of two or more different radio resources of a given radio resource type, a measured signal strength with an identifier of the measured radio resource. An apparatus implementation of the technique presented herein is configured to analyze, using a similarity metric, similarity of a plurality of data sets, cluster the data sets, or information derived therefrom, based on data sets similarity so as to obtain multiple clusters representative of different radio locations and to determine, from each cluster, a radio resource set that defines a list of neighbouring radio resources for the radio location represented by that cluster.

Technique for determining neighbouring radio resources based on signal strength measurements

A technique for reporting and processing alarm conditions in a communication network is disclosed. In one variant, a network element is presented that comprises a memory and at least one processor coupled to the memory, wherein the memory stores program code that configures the at least one processor to detect, as a first event, at least one alarm condition and to start, in response to detecting the first event, an alarm clearance timer. The program code further configures the at least one processor to detect, as a second event, at least one of expiry of the alarm clearance timer and clearance of the at least one alarm condition and to determine, after detecting the second event, a first performance indicator value of a performance indicator for a first period of time between the first event and the second event. The at least one alarm condition and the first performance indicator value (or information derived from the first performance indicator value) are then reported to a central network management component.

Technique for reporting and processing alarm conditions occurring in a communication network

The method comprises the steps of: continuously receiving current operating parameters for a plurality of network elements (), updating the first operating parameters and the outage detection rules for the plurality of network elements taking into account the current operating parameters, detecting an outage for one of the network elements by comparing the received current operating parameters to the outage detection rules for said one network element, wherein if an outage is detected for said one network element, determining and applying the outage compensation rules for said one network element (), wherein applying the compensation rules includes optimizing the compensation parameters in order to calculate optimized operating parameters for the compensating network elements (-) used to compensate for the outage of said one network element, evaluating the application of the compensation rules, and storing the optimized operating parameters in the compensation rules as starting parameters for a future optimization of the compensation parameters in case of an outage of said one network element in dependence on the evaluation.

Outage compensation in a cellular network

An object of the present disclosure is to provide a radio-layer mechanism, which brings the IP and radio protocol layers closer and simplifies the radio protocols for future mobile networks, so that the extreme high transmission speed that these networks will be capable of may be efficiently utilized. The object is achieved by a method () in an access point adapted to schedule transmissions of packets to and/or from a radio communication device. The method comprising determining () radio resources needed for at least one packet to be sent to a radio communication device, scheduling () the at least one packet without segmentation on radio resources, whereby all the necessary amount of radio resources that a transmission of the at least one packet will need can be scheduled at a time, and transmitting () scheduling information indicating the scheduled resources to the radio communication device.

Flexible transmission scheme for wireless communication

It is presented a method arranged to assist a determination of mobile devices being candidates for handover. The method is performed in a radio traffic detector and comprises: measuring a received signal strength value on a predetermined frequency band; repeating the measuring during a time period; generating a message comprising a timestamp associated with the time period, and a plurality of message elements, wherein each message element is based on a respective received signal strength value for respectively different time instances within the time period; and transmitting the message to a network node to assist the determination of mobile devices being candidates for handover. By using measured received signal strength, uplink traffic can be detected without the need to decode the signals. Corresponding radio traffic device, network node and method are also presented.

A technique for cable interface-based load balancing between first and second cells is described. Each cell comprises cable and air interfaces defining a parameter set comprising load statuses of the cable and air interfaces. A method aspect being performed in a control entity comprises the steps of determining, in the first cell, the parameter set of the first cell, obtaining the parameter set of the second cell, determining whether the load statues of the cable and air interfaces of the first cell are low, whether the air interface load status of the second cell is low, and whether the cable interface load status of the second cell is high, and reconfiguring, if a result of the determination is affirmative, at least one air interface configuration parameter of the first cell so as to off-load at least a part of mobile-originated traffic from the second cell to the first cell.

Technique for cable interface-based load balancing between cells

The address translation capabilities of packet-switched mobile networks are exploited to achieve bidirectional LAN communications therethrough. A multi-dash user VPN can be provided by encapsulating a multi-user LAN communication protocol for traversal of a packet-switched network. By encapsulating a commonly available multi-user LAN communication protocol, for example ethernet, remote LAN connectivity can be extended without requiring any host reconfiguration.

Using tunneling to enhance remote LAN connectivity

In one aspect, the present invention advantageously provides far greater granularity in adjusting the maximum (schedulable) uplink bit rates of users than is directly available from a defined grant table that is used for making scheduled uplink grants to those users. As a non-limiting example, the EUL scheduler in a NodeB in a WCDMA network calculates the 'effective' bit rate desired for one or more users over a given time interval, and determines the pattern of scheduling grants to make from the grant table over that interval, to produce the desired effective bit rate(s). This capability enables the EUL scheduler to make relatively fine fractional adjustments to the aggregate uplink data rate for a plurality of users, thus allowing much more precise reductions in the aggregate uplink data rate of those users. The EUL scheduler makes these more precise adjustments, for example, in response to indications of congestion on the backhaul connection between the NodeB and its supporting RNC. Grant variations also may be used in the HARQ processes of one or more users, for obtaining better bit rate control granularity.

Method and apparatus for grant-based uplink transmission scheduling

For implementing handling of congestions in a mobile network, a base station (), e.g., an evolved Node B, is provided with at least one congestion controller (). The congestion controller () operates in relation to data packets which are received from a transport network. The base station () then transmits the data packets on at least one radio link, which may be accomplished by using one or more scheduling queues () and a radio interface scheduler (). A bitrate detector () measures a bitrate of the received data packets, and a bitrate limit calculator () calculates, on the basis of the measured bitrate, a maximum bitrate for transmission of the data packets on the radio link. A congestion detector () is used to detect a congestion in the transport network. In response to the detected congestion, the radio interface scheduler () schedules transmissions on the at least one radio link to meet the calculated maximum bitrate.

Congestion handling in a base station of a mobile network

A device selects one or more cells in the network, and coordinates transmissions from the selected one or more cells, and transmissions from neighbor cells of the selected one or more cells, so that transmissions of the selected one or more cells do not interfere with reference signals transmitted by the neighbor cells at designated times. The device also receives, from a user equipment served by the selected one or more cells, measurement reports associated with the reference signals transmitted by the neighbor cells, and determines signal strengths of the neighbor cells based on the measurement reports. The device further determines, based on the signal strengths, whether network coverage is sufficient when coverage of the selected one or more cells is reduced or when the selected one or more cells are out of service.

Interference-free neighbor cell measurements

A mobile communications network may include a primary and secondary radio-nodes, and the secondary radio-node may include a radio-node transmitter and a radio-node receiver. A method of operating the secondary radio-node may include monitoring through the radio-node receiver of the secondary radio-node to detect user terminal signals transmitted to the primary radio-node while maintaining the secondary radio-node in a sleep mode. Responsive to detecting user terminal signals during monitoring in the sleep-mode, operation of the secondary radio-node may be changed from the sleep mode to an active mode.
