A fluid transfer apparatus for bulk material is disclosed. The transfer apparatus includes a rotor mounted on a rotatable shaft and including axially extending flow channels extending through the rotor parallel to the shaft, flow connectors for connecting a low-pressure flow of fluid and a high-pressure flow of fluid into and out of the axially extending flow channels, a casing enclosing the rotor, a pair of axially sealing plates disposed between the ends of the rotor and the casing, a pressurizing fluid fed into the chamber defined by the casing to pressurize the rotor, the flow connectors, and the axially movable sealing plates.

A pulp digester includes a vessel having an inlet, an outlet and a wall extending between the inlet and the outlet, the wall of the vessel having a curved interior surface. The digester includes a screen assembly positioned inside the vessel adjacent to the curved interior surface of the wall for removing liquid from pulp material. The screen assembly is movable relative to the curved interior surface of the vessel wall. The digester includes at least one support element permanently attached to the vessel wall for limiting movement of the screen assembly relative to the curved interior surface of the vessel wall. In certain embodiments, the at least one support, such as a ledge permanently attached to the vessel wall, supports a portion of the screen assembly. The screen assembly may have an inner face that is concave in a horizontal direction and convex in a vertical direction.

A method and an apparatus for processing wood chips, wherein the wood chips are treated with steam in a gas removal apparatus. The condensate formed in the gas removal apparatus is removed from the gas removal apparatus and the wood chips are treated with a processing solution in order to remove metal ions from the wood chips. Condensate formed in the gas removal apparatus is used as processing solution.

Method and apparatus for processing wood chips

A screen used in the production of cellulose pulp may be mounted in a digester to minimize traditional screen problems (including clogging) without introducing new problems. The screen comprises a screen plate having a plurality of slots formed in it with an inclination angle, which is 30-60&deg; with respect to the bottom edge of the screen plate. The screen plate may comprise a plurality of parallel screen bars side-by-side, or an integral metal plate with slots formed in it. The slots have a width between 1-5 (e.g. 2-4) millimeters and a spacing between them of 3-9 millimeters.

A method of defiberizing fibrous cellulosic material bound by chemical bonds and physical force comprising treating the fibrous cellulosic material in a treatment apparatus so as to loosen the chemical bonds between the fibers but to leave the bonds caused by physical force essentiall undisburbed to generate treated fiber accumulations and removing a stream of the treated fiber accumulations from said treatment apparatus and defiberting the treated fiber accumulations by subjecting the material to shear forces in the stream, the shear forces being of sufficient strenth to substantiallyl break the physical forces keeping the fibers together and to separate the fibers. The method of which is performed by step (1) introducing the fibrous material in the form of wood chips into a digester and by chemically treating the wood chips in the digester at a pressure and cooking temperature beyond the difiberation point of the fibrous material so as to soften the wood chips and to loosen the fibers; step (2) removing a tream of the treated wood chips from the digester and step (3) by defiberizing the treated wood chips by generating shear forces in the stream, the shear forces being of sufficient strength to substantially separate the fibers and by subjecting the wood chips to the shear forces.
