An aircraft engine, comprising: a shaft; a bearing housing extending around the shaft and defining a bearing cavity; a bearing in the bearing cavity and rotatably supporting the shaft; a squeeze film damper including: a first seal proximate a first end of the bearing, and a second seal proximate a second end of the bearing; an annulus between the first seal and the second seal, the annulus having a damping fluid in the annulus; and wherein at least the first seal includes a sealing ring received within a groove extending axially from an outer groove wall to an inner groove wall, the inner groove wall located axially between the outer groove wall and the annulus, the sealing ring having an outer ring face facing the outer groove wall and an inner ring face facing the inner groove wall, the inner ring face being movable relative to the outer ring face.

Aircraft engine with squeeze film damper

An oil system for an aircraft engine includes an oil tank, an engine component in fluid communication with the oil tank, a scavenge pump, and a manifold disposed inside the scavenge pump housing and fluidly connecting the engine component to the scavenge pump. The manifold includes a fluid passage, extending between a manifold inlet and a manifold outlet, and including a first bend, upstream, and a second bend. The first bend includes an oil isolator and the second bend includes an air offtake. The oil isolator separates an oil fraction from the fluid received from the engine component at the first bend and directs the oil fraction to the scavenge pump, and the air offtake separates an air fraction from the fluid at the second bend and directs the air fraction away from the scavenge pump.

Aircraft engine fluid separation system and method

Blowdown valves and associated methods for separating oil and air in a lubrication system of an aircraft engine are provided. A method includes receiving a mixture of air and oil at a blowdown valve including a valve member movable between a valve-closed position and a valve-open position. With the valve member in the valve-open position, the method includes impinging the mixture against the valve member. A first portion of the mixture having a first fraction of oil is released from the blowdown valve upstream of the valve member. A second portion of the mixture having a second fraction of oil greater than the first fraction of oil is guided around and past the valve member. The second portion of the mixture is released from the blowdown valve downstream of the valve member.

Blowdown valve with air-oil separation

A fluid supply system and method is provided that includes a fluid pump, a pressure sensor, a pressure relief valve (PRV), and a fluid monitoring device. The fluid pump receives fluid from a first conduit and discharges fluid into a second conduit. The pressure sensor produces sensed fluid pressure signals. The PRV is in signal communication with the pressure sensor. The fluid monitoring device includes a control orifice in fluid communication with second and third conduits. The second conduit has a first inner diameter, the third conduit has a second inner diameter, and the control orifice has an orifice inner diameter, and the orifice inner diameter is less than the first and second inner diameters. The pressure sensor senses fluid pressure in the third conduit at a position in close proximity to the control orifice. The fluid monitoring device may be in a lead or a lag domain configuration.

System and method for controlling fluid flow with a pressure relief valve

The auxiliary duct can branch radially outwardly from the bypass duct, have a proximal end fluidly connecting the bypass duct and a distal end, a valve can be activatable to selectively open and close the auxiliary passage, and a structure can protrude partially from the auxiliary duct into the auxiliary passage, the structure spaced apart from the proximal end, between the proximal end and the valve, the structure generating lesser pressure losses when flow in the auxiliary passage is directed towards the distal end than when the flow is directed towards the proximal end.

Turbofan engine and method of operating same

The heat exchanger includes an inner casing extending circumferentially around the central axis and securable to the shaft for concurrent rotation therewith, and an outer casing extending circumferentially around the central axis and secured to the inner casing, the outer casing located radially outwardly of the inner casing relative to the central axis. First conduits are secured to the outer casing and to the inner casing for rotation about the central axis, the first conduits located radially between the outer casing and the inner casing, and circumferentially distributed about the central axis. First passages are defined in the first conduits. Second passages are circumferentially interspaced between the first passages and are located radially between the inner casing and the outer casing. The second passages are in heat exchange relationship with the first passages.
