In a multi-carrier wireless system, potential problems from reconfiguring mobile station resources to accommodate changes in component-carrier configuration are mitigated by inserting a guard period each time the configuration of component carriers changes, so that transceiver reconfiguration can be carried out without interfering with ongoing transmission. A base station is configured to transmit data to a mobile station according to a first configuration of two or more component carriers, to determine that a change of configuration to a second component carrier configuration is required, and to signal the change of configuration to the mobile station, using the first configuration of component carriers. The base station then refrains from transmitting data to the mobile station during a pre-determined guard interval of at least one transmission-time interval subsequent to the signaling of the change of configuration. After the guard interval, data is transmitted to the mobile station according to the second component carrier configuration.

A radio transceiver circuit for FDD communication is disclosed. It comprises a transmitter for FDD signal transmission in a first frequency band, a first receiver for FDD signal reception in a second frequency band, separate from the first frequency band, and a duplexer. An output port of the transmitter is operatively connected to a first port of the duplexer for transmitting, through the duplexer, signals in said first frequency band. An input port of the first receiver is operatively connected to a second port of the duplexer for receiving, through the duplexer, signals in said second frequency band. The radio transceiver circuit comprises a second receiver, separate from the first receiver, for reception in said first frequency band. An input port of the second receiver is operatively connected to said first port of the duplexer for receiving, through the duplexer, signals in said first frequency band. A related radio communication apparatus is also disclosed.

A receiver front end arrangement comprises a radio frequency signal input suitable to be connected to an antenna arrangement, a filter bank of non-overlapping band filters associated with respective band for the multi-band reception, a signal conditioning arrangement connected to the filter bank, and a low-noise amplifier arrangement connected to the signal conditioning arrangement. The low-noise amplifier arrangement comprises a path for each band of bands of the multi-band reception. For each path associated with a band for the multi-band reception the low-noise amplifier arrangement comprises a low-noise amplifier. The respective low-noise amplifier has band pass characteristics, or has a band filter connected where the band filter output has a direct connection to the input of the low-noise amplifier, corresponding to a band of the multi-band reception, respectively. The receiver front end arrangement further comprises a combiner structure arranged to combine the outputs of the respective low-noise amplifier of the paths of the low-noise amplifier arrangement. The signals at the output of the combiner structure have the same frequencies as the corresponding signals at the radio signal input. The signal conditioning arrangement is arranged to condition signals for respective path of the low-noise amplifier arrangement. A multi-band receiver comprising the receiver front end arrangement, and a base station comprising the multi-band receiver are also disclosed.

A technique for self-interference suppression control for a relay node is provided. The relay node comprises a transmitter and a receiver, and is adapted to transmit and received simultaneously using the same frequency channel or using proximate frequency channels. The relay node further comprises an interference signal estimator having a first input adapted to receive a transmitter signal from the transmitter, a second input adapted to receive adaptation metric and an output adapted to output an estimated interference signal generated by the interference signal estimator based on the transmitter signal and the adaptation metric. A subtractor is coupled to the output of interference signal estimator and configured to subtract the estimated interference signal from a received signal in the receiver so as to actively cancel a signal transmitted from the relay node that leaks back into the receiver of the relay node to suppress self-interference.

A quadrature mixer arrangement is disclosed, which is adapted to translate an input signal by a translation frequency. The mixer arrangement is operated at a clock rate that equals the translation frequency times an oversampling rate, wherein the oversampling rate is not a multiple of four. The mixer arrangement comprises a sequence generator, at least one pair of mixers, and one or more correction networks. The sequence generator generates an in-phase mixer translation sequence and a quadrature-phase mixer translation sequence based on the oversampling rate. The in-phase mixer translation sequence is a time-discrete representation of a translation frequency sinusoidal function sampled at the clock rate, and the quadrature-phase mixer translation sequence is a time-discrete representation of the translation frequency sinusoidal function phase-shifted by &#x3c0;/2 plus a phase deviation and sampled at the clock rate, wherein the phase deviation is a function of the oversampling rate. Each pair of mixers comprises an in-phase mixer and a quadrature-phase mixer, each adapted to translate a respective input signal based on the respective translation frequency. The one or more correction networks are adapted to, based on the oversampling rate and the phase deviation, compensate for the phase deviation by adjusting at least one of the in-phase mixer input signal, the quadrature-phase mixer input signal, the in-phase mixer output signal, and the quadrature-phase mixer output signal.

A radio transceiver is disclosed. It comprises a first transceiver circuit and a second transceiver circuit, the latter requiring an LO signal having higher LO frequency than the former. It further comprises a frequency synthesizer comprising a first clock-signal generator adapted to generate the LO signal for the first transceiver circuit based on a first reference oscillation signal and a second clock-signal generator adapted to generate the LO signal for the second transceiver circuit based on a second reference oscillation signal, which is or is derived from the LO signal for the first transceiver circuit. It is disclosed a mixer arrangement for complex signal mixing comprising a first harmonic rejection mixer, and a second harmonic rejection mixer. Each of the harmonic rejection mixers comprises mixer unit cells wherein each mixer unit cell comprises a differential input, transconductance elements corresponding to the differential input, and a switching network arranged to switch signals from the transconductance elements to a differential output, and the first and the second harmonic rejection mixers have mutual quadrature phase relationship. The first and the second rejection mixer share a plurality of mixer unit cell, each comprising an input for receiving a signal to be mixed, an input for receiving control signals derived from a local oscillator signal, and one output for each of the first and second harmonic rejection mixers. A radio circuit comprising such a mixer arrangement and a communication apparatus comprising such a radio circuit are also disclosed.

Harmonic rejection mixer arrangement

A radio circuit comprises an interface unit for communicating data and commands over a communication link between a digital baseband circuit and the radio circuit. Furthermore, the radio circuit comprises an event-scheduling unit, a local time-reference unit, a synchronization unit, and an execution-control unit. The event-scheduling unit is arranged to receive event-request commands specifying an event to be executed in the radio circuit and a time instant at which the specified event is to be executed, from the digital baseband circuit. Furthermore, the event-scheduling unit is arranged to, in response to receiving an event request-command, schedule the specified event to be executed on the specified time instant. The execution-control unit is arranged to issue execution of each scheduled event at the scheduled time instant based on time information from the local time reference unit. The local time-reference unit is synchronized with a time-reference unit in the digital baseband circuit in response to a synchronization command, from the synchronization unit.

Event handling in a radio circuit

The disclosure relates to a Complex Intermediate Frequency (CIF)-based receiver adapted to process a received signal comprising a signal component at a desired frequency and a signal component as an image frequency. The CIF-based receiver determines the power of the received signal by calibrating the receiver to minimize the power of the signal component at the image frequency that interferes with the signal component at the desired frequency, introduces signal leakage from the image frequency to intentionally degrade the quality of the signal component at the desired frequency, and determines the power of the signal component at the image frequency based on the amount of degradation.

Complex intermediate frequency based receiver architecture

A radio-receiver circuit. The radio receiver circuit comprises an analog-to-digital conversion unit. The analog-to-digital conversion unit comprises an analog-to-digital converter, ADC, and a filter operatively connected to an input terminal of the ADC in a receive path of the radio-receiver circuit. The radio-receiver circuit further comprises a control unit adapted to receive control data and determine, based on the control data, a frequency band in which data is to be transmitted to the radio-receiver circuit during a subsequent time interval. Furthermore, the control unit is adapted to adapt at least one frequency characteristic of the analog-to-digital conversion unit to the determined frequency band for receiving said data transmitted in said subsequent time interval.

Radio-receiver circuit

A mixer arrangement for generating an analog output signal by mixing an analog input signal with a discrete-time mixing signal. The mixer arrangement comprises a plurality of unit elements. Each unit element is adapted to be in an enabled mode in a first state of an enable signal supplied to the unit element, and in a disabled mode in a second state of the enable signal. Each unit element is adapted to generate the output signal of the unit element based on the analog input signal of the mixer arrangement in the enabled mode but not in the disabled mode. The unit elements are connected for generating a common output signal as the sum of the output signals from the unit elements. The mixer arrangement is adapted to generate the analog output signal of the mixer arrangement based on the common output signal. A corresponding method is also disclosed.

Mixer arrangement

A processing device processes an analog complex input signal representing a sequence of OFDM symbols in a radio-receiver. The processing device comprises processing paths, each comprising a complex mixer and an analog channel-selection filter. Furthermore, the processing device comprises an oscillator unit that provides local oscillator signals associated with the complex mixer of each processing path. A control unit determines, based on received control data, subcarrier locations, within at least one individual OFDM symbol of the sequence, of one or more resource blocks allocated to the radio receiver. The control unit, for each of the at least one individual OFDM symbol, controls the local oscillator signals based on the determined subcarrier locations and passbands of the channel-selection filters such that each resource block allocated to the radio receiver is frequency translated by a complex mixer of the processing paths to appear within the passband of the following channel-selection filter.
