A multi-stage integrally geared compressor includes a first process stage, a second process stage and a gearbox for coupling the two process stages to each other at different rotational speeds. The gearbox further couples a compressor drive shaft to the two process stages at a further rotational speed, which is different from the rotational speeds of the process stages.

A method is provided where carbon dioxide is compressed in a multi-stage geared compressor using a substantially isothermic process to a pressure which lies above the pressure of the critical point of carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide is subsequently cooled to ambient temperature in a cooling device and then compressed to a predefined final pressure in a pump device.

A separating apparatus for separating out particles, especially liquid droplets from a gas flow which comprises the particles, comprising a flow channel which conducts the gas flow and has at least one deflection region for deflecting the gas flow, and a collecting vessel for accommodating the particles, the flow channel also having a branch leading to the accommodation vessel for separating the particles out of the gas flow, is in accordance with the invention, characterized in that, in addition to the branch, a line opens into the accommodation vessel and connects the accommodation vessel to the flow channel in a fluid-conducting manner.
