A device for use with a lean-burning internal combustion engine is disclosed. The device is comprised of a means for generating an air/fuel mixture for the cylinders of the engine in order to provide at least stratified and homogenous operation, an exhaust system connected to the engine, and an NO -adsorbing catalytic converter arranged in the exhaust system. The device additionally has a heat exchanger that is fitted upstream of the catalytic converter, wherein the heat exchanger is used to adapt the temperature of the exhaust gas from the engine to an operating state of the catalytic converter.

The invention relates to a method for limitation of at least one controllable operating parameter that can cause ageing of at least one component or one material in connection with an engine. The method includes the steps of determination of a maximum limit value allowed regarding the operating parameter and control of the engine so that the limit value is not exceeded, thereby limiting ageing of the component or material. The invention includes continuous determination of a measure that corresponds to the degree of impairment of the component that depends on ageing, wherein said determination of the limit value is made depending on the measure. The invention also relates to an arrangement for accomplishing this method. By means of the invention, an improved method and arrangement is provided for limitation of ageing of components and materials that, in particular, are arranged in connection with a combustion engine in a vehicle, thereby providing improved fuel consumption, improved emissions and improved performance of the vehicle.

Method and arrangement for control of air-fuel ratio of combustion engine

The present invention relates to a device regulation of turbo-charging in an internal combustion engine. The turbo-charging regulation includes a first turbo unit and a second turbo unit each including appropriate turbines and compressors arranged sequentially on the exhaust and the intake sides of the engine. An engine rotational speed sensor is provided issuing a signal indicating the rotational speed of the engine. In addition, at least one pressure sensor issuing a signal indicative of an engine pressure level on the intake side of the engine is also provided. A first valve is associated with the first turbo unit and arranged to direct the engine combustion gases toward the turbine of the first turbo unit in a closed state and to direct the engine combustion gases past the turbine of the first turbo unit in an open state. A second valve is associated with the second turbo unit and arranged to direct the engine combustion gases toward the turbine of the second turbo unit in a closed state and to direct the engine combustion gases past the turbine of the second turbo unit in an open state. A central control unit is arranged to control the actuation of the first and second valves in response to signals from the rotational speed sensor and the at least one pressure sensor to provide a continuous transition between the operation of the first turbo unit and the second turbo unit.

At a certain rate of opening, the processor permits an increase in the charge pressure to the higher pressure and thereafter effects timed reduction of the charge pressure to the maximum permissible pressure at constant load.

The invention relates to a control system for preventing wheel spinning in the drive wheels of a motor vehicle with an engine with fuel injection. The control system has wheel speed sensing means and a processor unit which limits the quantity of fuel injected in steps in proportion to the wheel slippage. In a first step, the injected quantity is reduced to a cylinder by one half for example. In a second step, the fuel supply is completely shut off to this cylinder. The process then continues correspondingly by incremental shutting off of portions of cylinders until the wheel slippage drops, and the process is then reversed.
