A method of processing controlled source electromagnetic (CSEM) data is provided for reducing the airwave contribution. CSEM data are acquired, for example using a conventional towed source () and receiver () arrangement. The recorded data are weighted in accordance with the geometrical spreading of the airwave component. The differences between pairs of weighted data records are then formed.

Method of and apparatus for processing CSEM data, program, storage medium, computer and use of method

There is disclosed a method of performing a controlled source electromagnetic survey, which includes in one embodiment deploying a receiver and an electric dipole source. The source defines a dipole axis. An electromagnetic field is transmitted from the electric dipole source. First and second horizontal components of an electromagnetic field response are detected using the receiver. A vertical component of the electromagnetic field response is then estimated using the detected first and second horizontal components of the electromagnetic field response.

CSEM survey method

A method for estimating saturation using mCSEM data and stochastic petrophysical models by quantifying the average water saturation in a reservoir given the transverse resistance (TR) obtained from mCSEM data, including the following steps: a) obtaining mCSEM survey data from a subsurface region of interest, b) performing an inversion of the obtained mCSEM data, c) subtracting a background resistivity trend from the mCSEM inversion data from the resistivity trend of the mCSEM inversion data from inside a hydrocarbon reservoir, d) estimating the location of an anomaly in the mCSEM inversion data, e) estimating the magnitude of the transverse resistance associated with an anomaly from the mCSEM inversion data, f) estimating an initial average reservoir saturation corresponding to transverse resistance using a stochastic petrophysical model and Monte Carlo simulation connecting reservoir parameters to transverse resistance, and g) integrating the obtained saturation distribution as a function of transverse resistances over the assumed distribution of transverse resistances to obtain a final estimation of the fluid saturation probability.

Saturation estimation using mCSEM data and stochastic petrophysical modeling

A method is provided for processing marine controlled source electromagnetic data. Inline and broadside marine controlled source electromagnetic data are provided, for example by means of one or more horizontal electric dipoles and one or more receivers disposed in a water column above a subsurface to be surveyed. A linear combination of the inline and broadside data is formed so as to reduce the airwave content.
