A middleware services layer for a platform system for a mobile terminal for a wireless telecommunications system, the platform system including a mobile terminal platform assembly having a software services component, and application software loaded, installed and run in said mobile terminal platform assembly. The middleware services layer comprises at least one application programming interface (API) for providing access to the mobile terminal platform assembly for loading, installing and running application software in said mobile terminal platform assembly; and, at the same time, isolates the platform assembly from the applications via the at least one API.

Middleware services layer for platform system for mobile terminals

The present invention is related to a method of configuring an interface between a serving GPRS support node and a base station system. A signal is transmitted () from the base station system to the serving GPRS support node indicating cancellation of at least one BSSGP virtual connection associated with a first network service entity identifier. Upon receipt of the cancellation signal at the serving GPRS support node, data structures in the serving GPRS support node are updated () to reflect that the at least one BSSGP virtual connection has been cancelled.

Method in a communication network

The present invention is related to a method of configuring an interface between a serving GPRS support node and a base station system. Allocation (,) of a new network service entitiy identifier is requested. In response to said request, a new network service entity identifier is automatically allocated (,) according to a predefined rule ensuring that the new network service entity identifier is unique within the serving GPRS support node. Data structures in the serving GPRS support node and the base station system are automatically initiated (,) by registering the allocated new network service entity identifier in said data structures.

The invention provides a communication unit (MS1), communicating with a first radio base station (BTS1) on a dedicated communication channel (CH1) in a radio communication network (NET1) using a combination of TDMA and FDMA, with an increased flexibility in terms of when the communication unit (MS1) can receive signals from a second base station (BTS4). The increased flexibility is achieved by the communication unit (MS1) selecting some of the time slots comprising the dedicated communication channel (CH1) and ignoring to communicate with the first radio base station in these selected time slots and instead using them to receive signals (BCCH4) from the second radio base station (BTS4). In a GSM mobile station (MS1) according to the invention, the 'stolen' time slots are used for identification of a neighboring base tranceiver station (BTS4), i.e. for detection and decoding of the frequency correction channel and synchronization channel, resulting in faster identification and thus enabling the mobile station (MS1) to perform handover faster.

Method and arrangement relating to radio communication networks

A digital cellular communications system has a bidirectional pulse code modulation (PCM) link for conveying encoded speech and control data in the form of blocks, a switching unit coupled to a first end of the PCM link, and a base station coupled to a second end of the PCM link. The switching unit includes a speech encoder for encoding speech signals, an error detection code generator for generating an error detection code from the encoded speech signal, and a formatter, coupled to the error detection code generator, for producing a formatted block to be transmitted on the PCM link, the formatted block having a header, the encoded speech dam, and the error detection code. The base station has a PCM link error detector for signalling the existence of an error in a received block in response to the received block containing an error. The base station further includes a downlink error handler coupled to the PCM link error detector, for discarding a received block in response to the signal indicating the existence of an error therein, and for substituting therefor a default control message to be relayed to a mobile station, the default control message having no meaning defined by the digital cellular communications system, whereby the mobile station, in response to receiving the default control message, performs no operation other than a bad frame masking operation. Uplink error detection and handling is also provided.
