An electrical machine with a rotor or the stator including a plurality of discrete field modules, and the other one of the rotor and the stator including a plurality of armature coils connected to different power converters. Each field module includes one or more field coils which can be activated independent of the field coils of the neighbouring field modules. When at least one of the field coils is inactivated, e.g. because of a defect, each of the power converters is allowing less power to pass through when an armature coil connected to it is moving over an inactivated field coil, and more power to pass through when the armature coil connected to it is moving over an activated field coil.

Fault-tolerant electrical generator operable with partial power

An apparatus for use in an electrical power generation plant. The apparatus includes: at least two adjustable speed drives, each connected, on an alternating current side, to an associated auxiliary motor; at least one reactive power consuming auxiliary device connected to an alternating current bus; a controller; a converter for converting alternating current to direct current or vice versa between the alternating current bus and a direct current bus; and at least one electrical power source arranged to provide power to the direct current bus. Each of the at least two adjustable speed drive is connected, on a direct current side, to the direct current bus.

Internal electrification scheme for power generation plants

A wind mill apparatus for generating electric power to a grid point of an electric network. The apparatus includes a wind rotor, an electric generator operatively connected to the wind rotor, and an electric multiphase ac link operatively connecting the generator to the grid point. The ac link includes a first current path including a switchgear, a second current path including a dc link including a first converter operatively connected to the generator, a second converter operatively connected to the grid point, and a capacitor operatively connected between the conductors of the dc link. The ac link further includes a connectable multiphase dump load for blocking during a fault condition on the network the reactive power flow in the ac link, yet providing a reduced transfer of active power.

Method and arrangement for providing an energy converter that includes a combustion system () including at least one piston (), at least one combustion chamber () having at least one inlet () and at least one outlet () with inlet and outlet valves (). At least one controllable inlet valve and at least one outlet valve is also provided. A fuel supply is provided () for supplying fuel and a medium containing oxygen is provided for induction into the combustion chamber (). An electric machine () is arranged to interact directly or indirectly with the piston () in an electromagnetic manner such that it produces electrical energy from the piston movements, as well as uses electrical energy to affect the piston movement. A control unit () controls the combustion system () and the electric machine (). The energy converter is arranged to adapt its power output depending on the required load of the energy converter. The invention also relates to a method for starting an energy converter.

Energy converter

A power converter arrangement for connecting an induction generator to an electric power network comprises a first path provided for transferring electric power from the induction generator to the electric power network during a first operation condition, and a second path provided for transferring electric power from the induction generator to the electric power network during a second operation condition, where the first path includes an AC-AC converter and the second path includes a switch. A capacitor arrangement is interconnected between the induction generator and the first and second paths and a first AC reactor device is interconnected between the capacitor arrangement and the first and second paths, where the capacitor arrangement is provided for compensating for a magnetization current of the induction generator.

Power converter arrangement and method

A device for controlling at a fault condition. An apparatus is connected by a connection line to a grid point of a transmission net in an electric power network. A voltage raising apparatus includes a first branch connected to the grid point including a switching element and a second branch including a current resisting means. The voltage raising apparatus includes a computer for signal processing of a sensed fault condition on the network and for affecting the operation of the switching element such that on a fault condition at least part of the current is diverted through the voltage raising apparatus and for evaluation of further actions.

Electric power network

Methods and devices for performing a selection action of information in a central system before communicating selected information to a user terminal. The selection is based on at least the identity of the user and position of the user terminal. Using relations between identity and profiles, a first information filtering can be achieved. Using relations between the actual position of the user terminal and constitution of the industrial automation facility, information irrelevant for parts in the vicinity of the user terminal is removed. The operational situation of the facility and history of user actions may be used for filtering or prioritizing the information. The most prioritized data quantity is communicated to the user terminal and displayed at a user terminal display. If all the data, despite sifting, is too extensive to be shown at once on the user terminal, the user may move between different parts of the relevant information.

Method and system for sending localization and identity dependent information to mobile terminals

A rotating electrical machine and method for making the machine, where the machine includes a high-voltage stator winding and elongated support devices for supporting the winding. The machine and method employ an arrangement of cable that is made of inner conductive strands, covered with a first semiconducting layer, which is covered with an insulating layer, which is covered with a second semiconducting layer. The cable is wound in slots in the stator such that separate cable lead-throughs are positioned in specific arrangements with respect to each other and in slots of the stator. The arrangement of the cable in the stator protects the integrity of the respective components in the cable and particularly the second semiconducting layer.

Rotating electrical machine having high-voltage stator winding and elongated support devices supporting the winding and method for manufacturing the same

In a plant containing a turbo-generator the magnetic circuit of the turbo-generator is included in an electric generator which directly supplies a high supply voltage of 20-800 kV, preferably higher than 36 kV. The insulation of the generator is built up of a cable () comprising one or more current-carrying conductors () with a number of strands () surrounded by outer and inner semiconducting layers () and intermediate insulating layers (). The outer semiconducting layer () is at earth potential. The phases of the winding are Y-connected. The Y-point may be insulated and protected from over-voltage by means of surge arresters, or else the Y-point may be earthed via a suppression filter.

Turbo generator plant with a high voltage electric generator

In a plant comprising one or more electric machines constructed with insulated conductors and connected for heavy current via insulated conductors, the magnetic circuit in at least one of these electric machines is connected directly to a high supply voltage of 20-800 kV, preferably higher than 36 kV. The insulation of the electric machine is built up of a cable () placed in its winding and comprising one or more current-carrying conductors () with a number of strands () surrounded by outer and inner semiconducting layers () and intermediate insulating layers (). The conductors () may be group-wise connected in parallel and semiconducting layers are therefore not required around every conductor in the group. If the conductors () are connected in series with each other within the group a part insulation () is required which will withstand a few kV, whereas connection of the conductors () to every phase requires a strong part insulation () which will withstand the phase voltage of the high-voltage supply network.

High voltage plants with electric motors

The magnetic circuit of a generator in a hydro-generator plant is arranged to directly supply a high supply voltage of 20-800 kV, preferably higher than 36 kV. The generator is provided with solid insulation and its winding includes a cable () comprising one or more current-carrying conductors () with a number of strands () surrounded by at least one outer and one inner semiconducting layer () and intermediate insulating layers (). The outer semiconducting layer () is at earth potential. The stator winding may be produced with full or fractional slot winding, the phases of the winding being Y-connected. The Y-point may be insulated and protected from over-voltage by means of surge arresters, or else the Y-point may be earthed via a suppression filter. The invention also relates to a hydro-generator plant, a generator included in the plant and a procedure for building such a plant.

Hydro-generator plant

An electric high voltage AC machine intended to be directly connected to a distribution or transmission network () comprises at least one winding. This winding comprises at least one current-carrying conductor, a first layer having semiconducting properties provided around said conductor, a solid insulating layer provided around said first layer, and a second layer having semiconducting properties provided around said insulating layer. In addition grounding means () are provided to connect at least one point of said winding to ground.

High voltage AC machine winding with grounded neutral circuit

A synchronous machine for power and/or voltage control comprises a stator with a stator winding and a rotor with a field winding. The stator winding comprises a high-voltage cable with solid insulation. A rotor has a thermally based rotor current limit intersecting with a thermally based stator current limit in a capability graph at a power factor considerably below the rated power factor or has the thermally based rotor current limit above the thermally based stator current limit. In the capability graph. Means are provided for limiting the currents in order to avoid thermal damage. In a method for power and/or voltage control of such a synchronous machine, the machine operates with the stator current exceeding the thermally based stator current limit for a certain time period less than the maxim an permissible time limit, whereafter the overload is reduced by reduction of either the active power or the field current or a combination of both.

Synchronous machine with power and voltage control

A device that includes a combustion engine with a piston that is mechanically freely movable in a housing. The device permits combustion of a fuel mixture to produce a pushing force to the piston. The device includes an electromagnetic energy transducer and an external current circuit, which is connected to the energy transducer for exchange of effect in a direction to or from the energy transducer. A control unit controls the direction of the effect, which is exchanged between the energy transducer and the external current circuit, during operation of the device. Such a device can be used to generate electrical energy, and can be employed in a vehicle.

An electrical machine with at least a machine unit. This machine unit includes a stator, which includes a plurality of magnetic flux conductors, an electric conductor forming a winding extending in a substantially closed winding path through each magnetic flux conductor, and a least one first movable element, which includes a number of permanent magnet elements and which is movable in a reciprocating movement in relation to the stator along a first movement path in a space having a finite length and formed by at least some of the magnetic flux conductors. The winding path includes a first current carrying portion, which extends substantially in parallel with the first movement path. Each magnetic flux conductor is arranged to form, together with one of the permanent magnetic elements, a closed magnetic flux circuit extending around the current carrying portion.
