A device for catalytic treatment of a first fluid medium and for changing heat between the first fluid medium and a second fluid prior to or after the catalytic treatment comprises a plate heat exchanger () of the type in which the plates () are rigidly interconnected by welding or soldering. A catalyst carrier () has been detachably fastened to the plate heat exchanger () and protrudes into one of the ports () of the exchanger ().

A container ( ) adapted to avoid peak temperatures of water delivered from a heat exchanger ( ) is provided with interior reinforcing means ( , FIG. &prime;&Prime;, FIGS. ) connecting opposite parts of the wall ( &prime;) of the container ( ). Even with a thin container wall this makes it possible to use a box shaped container design without risk of deformations due to variations in the water pressure. The reinforcing means may consist of stacked interconnected plates ( &prime;&Prime;)&mdash;e.g. having the same form and size as plates ( &Prime;) used in a plate heat exchanger connected to the container ( ).
