A missile is provided with a proximity fuze arranged to transmit a signal and to receive echoes for activating an explosive charge when an object is within range. A signal processing device located between the receiver of the fuze and the charge is responsive to signals from the receiver and to a blocking signal of predetermined duration, and operates to transmit a control signal for initiating explosion of the charge only if the blocking signal has terminated and a predetermined time interval has elapsed, preceding occurrence of a receiver output signal, during which interval no output signal was produced by the receiver.

Device for ground-controlled activation of proximity fuzes

Apparatus for controlling the output power of a laser diode the beam of which is directed in a selected direction toward a target so as to enable a missile or the like to be directed along the beam toward the target. The apparatus includes a circuit which supplies a variable amount of power to the diode, and a circuit which is responsive to the radiation emitted by the diode, and the latter circuit generates a signal which is proportional to the magnitude of the emitted radiation. A control circuit is provided which is initiated into operation at the time of firing of the missile and generates a signal which represents the desired increase in magnitude of the radiation emitted by the diode during the time of travel of the missile toward the target. A further signal compares the signal which is proportional to the desired magnitude of the radiation with the signal which is proportional to the magnitude of the radiation emitted by the diode, and the difference between these signals is then used to control the amount of power supplied to the diode.

A radiation emitter for a projectile comprises a pyrotechnical charge located within the body of the projectile, and connected via a channel within the body to an opening in the side of said projectile to emit radiation via said opening when the pyrotechnical charge has been ignited. The radiation emitter may comprise the transmitter unit of a proximity fuze carried by the projectile.

A projectile comprises an elongated casing containing a payload, a proximity fuze, a transmitter unit operative to transmit a beam of radiation toward a target, and a receiver unit responsive to radiation reflected from the target for controlling the proximity fuze to selectively initiate operation of the payload at a predetermined distance from the target. The transmitter unit is located adjacent the tail end of the projectile rearward of the payload and comprises a pyrotechnical charge positioned at the extreme rear of the projectile and operative, when ignited, to cause emission of light via a lens in an opening in the side of the projectile to form the transmitted beam of radiation. The receiver unit is located adjacent the nose end of the projectile forward of the payload to maximize the measuring base between the transmitted and received beams of radiation, and comprises an optical system associated with an interference filter, radiation detector, and electronic control circuit.
