A map image is displayed via a user interface. A user selection of a location marker or one of a set of textual driving directions is received via the user interface. In response to the received user selection, an interactive information window overlaid within the map image is generated. Generating the interactive information window includes providing additional information regarding a location related to the marker or to the one of the set of textual driving directions.

A method of displaying a map on a display page includes displaying a map image; displaying at least one zoom control object overlaid on the map image using an image overlay technique to display the at least one zoom control object within the map image, thereby increasing an area within the display page available for the map image; and changing a manner in which the map image is displayed in response to receiving a selection of the at least one zoom control object.

An online system allows users to join groups and interact with other members of group that they have joined. The online system identifies relationships between users in an organization using information about the users, such as roles and connections from an organizational chart. The online system establishes inferred connections between the users based on information from the organizational chart. The online system then determines whether to make group content visible to a user by applying visibility criteria for a group to the inferred connections between a user and members of the group, if any. Depending on this determination, groups are then made visible to certain users by presenting content associated with the group to the user.

In one embodiment, a method includes accessing a social graph that includes a plurality of nodes and edges, identifying a nodes corresponding to a page currently accessed by a first user, generating one or more structured queries, where each structured query comprises a reference to the identified node and one or more edges that are connected to the identified node, and transmitting one or more of the structured queries to the first user for display on the page.

Various methods, systems, and apparatus for implementing aspects of a digital mapping system are disclosed. One such method includes sending a location request from a client-side computing device to a map tile server, receiving a set of map tiles in response to the location request, assembling said received map tiles into a tile grid, aligning the tile grid relative to a clipping shape, and displaying the result as a map image. Direction control or zoom control objects may be included as interactive overlays on the displayed map image. The displayed map image may also include route or location overlays.

A conversation server hosts a conversation having a plurality of participants, the conversation server enables a first client to display at least a portion of a conversation to a first participant. The conversation server receives a notification the portion of the conversation was viewed by the first participant at a first time while in a first state. After receiving a notification that the portion of the conversation has ceased to be viewed by the first participant, the conversation is edited to a second state at a second time. At a third time that is after the second time, the conversation server sends, to the first client, information enabling the first client to display a markup of the portion of the conversation that is indicative of one or more edits that transition the portion of the conversation from the first state to the second state.

A server system hosts a plurality of conversations. For a respective conversation the server system receives a first sequence of edits and a second sequence of edits to a respective content unit of the conversation from different participants of the conversation. The server system converts the first and second sequences of edits into respective first and second merged sequences of edits. The server system responds to a determination that the first merged sequence of edits and the second merged sequence of edits meet predefined conflict criteria by transforming the first and second merged sequences of edits. The server system sends the respective transformed sequences of edits to respective participants so that respective participants can apply either the first sequence of edits followed by the second transformed sequence of edits or applying the second sequence of edits followed by the first transformed sequence of edits to produce a same result.

System and methods for uploading media content in an instant messaging application are disclosed. In some implementations, a method includes, at a first electronic device having one or more processors and memory: obtaining a request by a first user to associate a media content item with a conversation between the first user and a second user. The conversation includes a message and one or more responses to the message. In some implementations, the method also includes, responsive to the request: (i) causing a thumbnail of the media content item to be displayed in-line in the conversation; and (ii) causing the media content item to be display to the second user, in response to a predefined user action by the second user. The thumbnail is displayed in a first resolution; and the media content item is displayed in a second resolution that is different than the first resolution.
