An arrangement for distribution of cooling liquid in the cooling liquid jacket in an internal combustion engine having cylinders disposed in-line in the cylinder block or in a bank of cylinders of the engine. The liquid jacket includes a liquid inlet chamber at one end of the row of cylinders and a liquid outlet chamber at the same end or at the opposite end of the row of cylinders and, in the cylinder block or bank of cylinders with associated cylinder head, mutually interconnected cooling liquid spaces and ducts which communicate with those chambers. In the lower portion of the cooling jacket, a liquid distribution pipe running along the row of cylinders is inserted at one side of the row of cylinders and has at one end a liquid inlet which communicates with the liquid inlet chamber. In the wall of the distribution pipe, liquid outlet holes are provided which are distributed along the distribution pipe and placed and directed in the distribution pipe wall so as to direct cooling water flows towards the cylinder tops and/or the spaces between them. These liquid outlet holes in the wall of the distribution pipe have successively increasing diameters away from the end of the row of cylinders where the liquid outlet chamber is situated. The outlet holes are preferably directed obliquely upwards toward the roof of the cooling jacket.

An arrangement for hydraulic pressure feed to self-adjusting hydraulic valve pushers in an internal combustion engine has a number of valves arranged in line in the engine cylinder head. The valve pushers are actuable by a cam shaft rotatably mounted in a number of bearings mounted on the cylinder head above the valves and the valve pushers. For providing the valve pushers and cam shaft bearings with satisfactory hydraulic pressure feed via a passage system limited in the cylinder head, in a simple and inexpensive way, the pressure oil is fed via a distribution conduit running along the line of valves and having a number of branch conduits. Each branch conduit extends in a plane at right angles to the cam shaft through one of its bearings, for pressure feed to said bearing and to at least one valve pusher. Each branch conduit preferably connects to a pocket formed in the cylinder head connecting the bearings of two valve pushers to each other.

The invention relates to an arrangement for enabling the connection of a position sensing transducer to a machine such that the transducer is not subjected to high temperatures or dirt. In accordance with the invention the transducer is mounted on the outside of a housing in which there is mounted a rotatable means which extends outside the housing to operate a drive means for driving auxiliary equipment. The invention is distinguished in that the position sensing transducer includes a disc fixed to the drive means, said disc co-acting in non-contacting relationship with a transducer mounted on the outside of the housing for indicating the angular positions of the disc, and in that the drive means and housing include portions concentrically disposed to form a labyrinth seal to a space which accommodates the position sensing transducer. The invention is intended for use in an Otto-type internal combustion engine to connect a transducer which senses the angular position of the engine crankshaft, thus making possible control of the engine ignition timing with great accuracy.

An arrangement for protecting ignition means in an internal combustion engine includes a cylinder head and two longitudinal parallel valve cover banks mounted thereon. Between the valve cover banks there is a longitudinal space for ignition means to the respective combustion chambers of the engine. Such a space and ignition means with their connections located therein are usually subjected to dirt, which reduces the functional reliability of the engine. To eliminate this and to facilitate engine service, the space is formed as a trough with a bottom and two end walls in the cylinder head, the trough being covered by a lid joining on to the valve cover banks and to at least one of its end walls and having at least one opening for ventilation and drainage.
