A suction bucket for a seabed foundation for an offshore facility is provided. The suction bucket is arranged for being embedded into a marine sediment. The suction bucket includes a lid and a sidewall. The sidewall is segmented into a first circumferential segment and at least a second circumferential segment. The first circumferential segment is connected with the second circumferential segment. The first circumferential segment and the second circumferential segment are attached to the lid of the suction bucket. Furthermore, the first circumferential segment and the second circumferential segment each contains at least one substantially planar section. Furthermore, a method to manufacture a suction bucket for a seabed foundation for an offshore facility is also provided.

Segmented suction bucket

The invention relates to a seabed foundation () for an offshore facility, comprising a primary pressure chamber () connected to a primary pump () and one or more secondary pressure chambers () connected to one or more secondary pumps (). According to an embodiment of the invention, said primary pump is a suction pump and said secondary pump is a pressure pump. The invention further relates to a method () of installing said foundation on the seabed (), which comprises the steps of activating () said primary pump to create negative pressure in the primary pressure chamber (), so that the foundation sinks into the seabed, and activating () said one or more secondary pumps () to create positive pressures in the secondary pressure chambers (), so as to control the alignment of the foundation with respect to a substantially horizontal axis () during the sinking into the seabed.

Method of installing a foundation in the sea bed and such foundation

Method of installing a bucket foundation structure comprising one, two, three or more skirts, into soils in a controlled manner. The method comprises two stages: a first stage being a design phase and the second stage being an installation phase. In the first stage, design parameters are determined relating to the loads on the finished foundation structure; soil profile on the location of installation; allowable installation tolerances, which parameters are used to estimate the minimum diameter and length of the skirts of the bucket. The bucket size is used to simulate load situations and penetration into foundation soil, in order to predict necessary penetration force, required suction inside the bucket and critical suction pressures, which penetration force, required suction, and critical suction pressures are used as input for a control system in the second stage, in which second stage the pa-rameters determined in the first stage are used in order to control the installation of the bucket.
