A method, performed by a base station () in a GSM/EDGE Radio Access Network, GERAN, of providing traffic classification for a data traffic flow, related to a General Packet Radio Service, GPRS, or Enhanced General Packet Radio Service, EGPRS. The method comprises the step of the base station () obtaining (S), for the data traffic flow, a traffic-class-based network layer Quality of Service, QoS, attribute for traffic prioritization. The method also comprises the step of the base station () including (S) the traffic-class-based network layer QoS attribute in data packets of the data traffic flow to provide network-layer traffic classification for the data traffic flow.

Traffic classification over the base station subsystem transport network

A network node for a GSM network, arranged to receive a TDMA frame comprising a plurality of timeslots, each of which comprises payload from one or more calls. The network node extracts payload from calls and to assigns the extracted payload a corresponding identifier identifying the call of the payload. The network node is also arranged to generate a data packet comprising the extracted payload from calls together with their corresponding identifier, and places the corresponding identifier in a header in the data packet. The network node is also arranged to transmit the data packet to another node in the GSM network.

Device and method for GSM call identifier

A method and device for controlling resources to avoid congestion in a cellular radio system having a mobile terminal connectable to a network via one or more base stations. When the mobile terminal sends an uplink signal, each base station receives a different uplink signal due to different radio paths between the mobile terminal and the base station. A resulting signal corresponding to the uplink signal sent from the mobile terminal is derived from the received signals, and the importance of each received signal to the resulting signal is determined. If there is a shortage or a projected shortage of resources to handle current or projected traffic demand in the base station, downlink radio links from the base station to the mobile terminal are prioritized according to the determined importance of each received uplink signal, and resources are freed from lower priority downlink radio links to avoid congestion.

Method and a device in a cellular radio system

A method and apparatus for minimizing interference in a wireless communication system. A base transceiver station transmits and receives over a first frequency band and a second frequency band. The maximum range of the first frequency band can be smaller than the maximum range of the second frequency band. Alternatively, the maximum range of the first frequency band can be larger than the maximum range of the second frequency band. Further, the maximum range of the second frequency band can vary based upon factors such as the capacity of the first frequency band and the amount of interference on the first frequency band. A control channel for the second frequency band which is measured for determining whether to handoff from the first frequency band to the second frequency band can be transmitted within the first frequency band.

Hot spot with tailored range for extra frequency to minimize interference

Systems and methods for estimating inter-frequency measurements used for radio network functions are disclosed. The systems and methods described allow systems to evaluate the quality of a second frequency by using offset adjusted measurements on a first frequency. By using the described methods, system capacity is increased by providing a &ldquo;low cost&rdquo; measurement mechanism for support of handover that substantially balance the load between two or more frequency bands. By using the proposed method, handover can be performed more frequently and the interference within each frequency band can therefore be kept at a more optimal level.

A plurality of base stations are operated in CDMA macrodiversity mode to communicate a message to a mobile station via an air interface. If the message is successfully communicated to one of the base stations via a packet network, the base station communicates the message to the mobile station via the air interface using CDMA. In an effort to have a mobile station choose a lowest level cell to lock onto, a method and apparatus for standby state cell selection in a layered cellular telephone system is proposed. Upon entering a standby state, the mobile station is provided with parameters containing a value for a minimum threshold downlink signal strength level and information pertaining to hierarchical levels associated with a plurality of cells within the cellular telephone system. The mobile station measures downlink signal strengths of a plurality of radio frequencies transmitted by the plurality of cells and selects a cell having a lowest level in the hierarchy of cells which transmits a radio frequency having a greatest downlink signal strength, the downlink signal further having a signal strength above the minimum threshold level.
