In a radio system a network node is provided to be operatively connected to a set of radio base stations of the radio network and to retrieving a neighbor list from each radio base station in said set of radio base stations. Based on said list of neighbors it is determined if a pair of radio base stations lack a connection between them, and upon determining that a connection between two radio base stations is lacking a connection between said pair of radio base stations is set up.

The present invention relates to a solution for handling a plurality of machine to machine, M2M, devices in a wireless communication cell by providing a shared Internet Protocol, IP, address for the plurality of M2M devices and one of the M2M devices acts as a master device for attaching and receiving the shared IP address and other communication configuration control data from a wireless gateway. The M2M devices communicate with a central M2M server using datagrams with the shared IP address and device identity information together with data or control messages.

A method and system enables a packet-switched data communication in a wireless communications system to be quickly and easily reestablished after interruption. The computer communications protocol that has been negotiated during the establishment of the packet-switched data communication may be saved upon interruption and later restored. In an exemplary embodiment, a wireless subscriber activates a call-waiting-type service along with an option to retain a packet-switched data communication. Thereafter, the subscriber may be engaged in a data communication on a packet data channel of the wireless communications system. Acceptance of a subsequent incoming, circuit-switched voice call causes the data packet session to be suspended, but the negotiated parameters of the computer communications protocol are saved. After the subscriber terminates the voice call, another data packet session is established with the saved parameters without needing to renegotiate the computer communications protocol parameters. Packet data applications that, have not timed-out may resume execution without reinitialization.

A digital radio network having a first single random access for packet data is enhanced by providing a second access which includes a second random access channel for controlled short data messages and a polled data channel for larger data messages. A new access scheme for a digital radio network for providing packet data access to mobile stations operating within said network. A random access channel (ACH) is provided for control signaling and short data messages between the network and the mobile stations. One or more polling data channels (PDCHs) are provided for larger quantities of data to be sent between the mobile stations and the network. A mobile station seeking access to send data packets contacts the network over the ACH channel, registers for packet access and is assigned a unique flag pattern. The network then sequentially provides to various registered mobiles access to a PDCH channel by sending its flag pattern in a message over the downlink PDCH. When each mobile recognizes its own unique flag pattern it knows that it is then allowed to send a discrete number of packet bursts to the network over the uplink PDCH before access to the PDCH is given to another registered mobile station. This procedure provides shared access to the PDCH channel to each of the mobiles in the network and prevents collisions between the packets of different mobile stations.
