A slip body includes a first plurality of ramps a second plurality of ramps. An anchor, includes a first compression body, and a second compression body, at least one being movable relative to the other, and a slip body disposed between the first and second compression bodies. A method for anchoring a tool in a borehole, including disposing the anchor above in the borehole, reducing a distance between the first and second compression bodies, camming against the first plurality of ramps and/or the second plurality of ramps of the slip body to move the slip body radially. A wellbore system, including a borehole in a subsurface formation, a string in the borehole, and a slip as described above, disposed within or as a part of the string.

Slip anchor, method, and system

A backup includes an anchor portion, an operable portion extending from the tip of the anchor portion, and an S section having a curvilinear line therein and where a substantially constant thickness of material from the line to an inside surface of the S section and a substantially nonconstant thickness of material from the curvilinear line toward an outside surface. A backup system including a backup, a gauge ring engageable with the anchor portion, the gauge ring including a contact surface with a back angle configured to engage the S section when the backup is set. A seal system including a mandrel, a backup, disposed on the mandrel, a gauge ring disposed on the mandrel and configured to interact with the backup; and a seal element disposed on the mandrel.

High expansion backup, seal, and system

An open tip downhole expansion tool incudes a frustoconical member having a base and a tip, the member having a radially outer zone and a radially inner zone and having an axial length extending from the base to the tip; an outer compliance area in a material of the member along a length of the radially outer zone; and an inner compliance area in a material of the member along a length of the radially inner zone, the outer and inner compliance areas being located at different positions along the axial length of the frustoconical member, the outer and inner compliance areas each causing the frustoconical member to present a first resistance to deformation when the compliance areas are in a first condition and a higher resistance to deformation of the frustoconical member when the compliance areas are in a second condition.

An open tip downhole expansion tool including a frustoconical member having a base at a diametrically smaller portion of the frustoconical member and a tip at a diametrically larger portion of the frustoconical member, the member having a radially outer zone and a radially inner zone and having an axial length extending from the base to the tip; an outer void in a material of the member along a length of the radially outer zone; and an inner void in a material of the member along a length of the radially inner zone, the outer and inner voids being located at different positions along the axial length of the frustoconical member, the outer and inner voids each causing the frustoconical member to present a first resistance to deformation when the voids are open and a higher resistance to deformation of the frustoconical member when the voids are collapsed.

Backup and packer

An anti-extrusion ring including a ring body having a cross sectional shape, a radial contact surface making up a part of the cross sectional shape of the ring body the radial contact surface being configured to preferentially load a radial edge portion of the radial contact surface when the anti-extrusion ring is loaded, an axial contact surface making up a part of the cross sectional shape, the axial contact surface being configured to preferentially load an axial edge portion of the axial contact surface when the anti-extrusion ring is loaded, and an element load surface positioned between the radial edge portion and the axial edge portion and method for creating a seal.

Pressure activated anti-extrusion ring for annular seal, seal configuration, and method

Devices and methods for setting a packer inside a wellbore with little appreciable reduction of the useable area of the wellbore. The outer casing or liner of the wellbore contains one or more integrated casing coupler joints having an increased diameter chamber portion. A large bore packing element is carried within the increased diameter chamber portion. The packing element may be selectively actuated to form a seal against an interior tubular member. Because the packing element is located within the chamber portion of the casing coupler, the packer may be set while saving useable cross-sectional area within the casing.
