A downhole tool includes a tubular having an outer surface and an inner surface defining a flowbore having a longitudinal axis, and a backpressure valve arranged in the flowbore. The backpressure valve includes a flapper valve having a first side and an opposing second side pivotally mounted to the inner surface to selectively extend across the flowbore and a locking system mounted to the inner surface in the flowbore and snap-fittingly engageable with the flapper valve. The flapper valve is pivotable between a first position, wherein the flapper valve is free to pivot relative to the inner surface, and a second position, wherein the flapper valve is pivoted away from the flowbore and locked open by the locking system such that the first side forms part of the flowbore.

A downhole tool includes a tubular having an outer surface and an inner surface defining a flowbore having a longitudinal axis, and a backpressure valve arranged in the flowbore. The backpressure valve includes a flapper valve including a first side and an opposing second side pivotally mounted to the inner surface to selectively extend across the flowbore, and a locking system mounted to the inner surface in the flowbore and selectively engageable with the flapper valve. The flapper valve is pivotable between a first position, wherein the flapper valve is free to pivot relative to the inner surface, and a second position, wherein the flapper valve is pivoted away from the flowbore and locked open by the locking system such that the first side forms part of the flowbore.

A downhole tool includes a tubular having an outer surface and an inner surface defining a flowbore having a longitudinal axis, and a backpressure valve cartridge arranged in the flowbore. The backpressure valve cartridge includes a valve seat and a flapper valve pivotally mounted relative to the valve seat. The backpressure valve cartridge is shiftable along the longitudinal axis to shift the flapper valve between a first position, wherein the flapper valve rests on the valve seat, and a second position, wherein the flapper valve is pivoted away from the valve seat.

A downhole tool includes a tubular having an outer surface and an inner surface defining a flowbore having a longitudinal axis and a backpressure valve arranged in the flowbore. The backpressure valve includes a flapper valve including a hinge end, a cantilevered end, a first side and an opposing second side pivotally mounted to the inner surface at the hinge end to selectively extend across the flowbore, and a locking system mounted to the inner surface adjacent to the hinge end of the flapper valve in the flowbore. The flapper valve is pivotable between a first position, wherein the flapper valve is free to pivot relative to the inner surface between an open configuration and a closed configuration, and a second position, wherein the hinge end of the flapper valve activates the locking system to lock the flapper valve in the open configuration.

A downhole tool includes a tubular having an outer surface and an inner surface defining a flowbore having a longitudinal axis. A backpressure valve is arranged in the flowbore. The backpressure valve includes a flapper valve including a first side and an opposing second side pivotally mounted to the inner surface to selectively extend across the flowbore and a locking system including a spring clip mounted to the inner surface. The flapper valve is pivotable between a first position, wherein the flapper valve is free to pivot relative to the inner surface, and a second position, wherein the flapper valve is pivoted away from the flowbore and locked open by the spring clip such that the first side forms part of the flowbore.

A downhole tool includes a tubular having an outer surface and an inner surface defining a flowbore having a longitudinal axis, and a backpressure valve cartridge arranged in the flowbore. The backpressure valve cartridge includes a passage, a valve seat arranged in the passage, and a flapper valve pivotally mounted relative to the valve seat in the passage. The valve seat is shiftable within the backpressure valve cartridge along the longitudinal axis to shift the flapper valve between a first position, wherein the flapper valve is free to pivot relative to the valve seat, and a second position, wherein the flapper valve is pivoted away from the valve seat and maintained in an open configuration.

The backpressure valve cartridge includes a passage, a valve seat arranged in the passage, a flapper valve pivotally mounted relative to the valve seat in the passage, and a piston member configured to shift the flapper valve between a first position, wherein the flapper valve is free to pivot relative to the valve seat, and a second position, wherein the flapper valve is pivoted away from the valve seat and maintained in an open configuration.

A carrier for connecting a tool to the outside diameter of a tubular member. The carrier is a sleeve made up of first and second sleeve sections which encircle a tubular member to form a substantially complete sleeve. The sleeve is threaded on each end and there is a threaded collar received on each threaded end of the sleeve. Since the sleeve sections are formed by threading a tubular member at opposite ends, and then splitting the tubular member, when the sleeve sections are placed in surrounding relationship to the pipe, there will be at least one gap between the sleeve sections.

A valve for subterranean whipstock service has a side port and a through passage with a biased movable sleeve to shift between circulation mode into the annulus and flow through mode for setting an anchor and then feeding window mill nozzles. The valve is run in when in circulation mode to allow operation of a measurement while drilling device. When the whipstock is properly oriented the pressure is increased to break a shear pin to allow a spring to bias the sleeve to the flow through position. The shifting of the sleeve opens a bypass passage around the restriction orifice that was first used to build pressure to break the shear pins that let the sleeve move under spring bias. As a result the spring can hold the sleeve in position despite high flow rates needed to remove cuttings from the mill as the window is opened.

A downhole setting tool having a first housing, a second housing having a chamber connected to the first housing, a power charge positioned within the chamber, an igniter connected to a portion of the power charge, and an ignition device connected to the igniter. The ignition device is configured to actuate upon receipt of an electrical signal. The ignition device is configured to ignite the igniter. The ignition device may rapidly heat up or apply a voltage or current to the igniter. The igniter is configured to cause the detonation of the power charge to set a device within a wellbore. The igniter may be embedded into the power charge with the ignition device positioned within a cavity in the igniter. The igniter may be a pyrotechnic material or may release high energy heat upon application of voltage or current.

In one aspect, a method of performing an operation in a wellbore is disclosed that in one embodiment may include: placing a first device at a first location in the wellbore, wherein the first device includes a plurality of circumferentially placed tags at known orientations in the wellbore, conveying a second device in the wellbore, the second device including a sensor that provides signals in response to detecting signals from each of the tags in the first device, determining from the signals from the sensor orientation of the second device in the wellbore. In another aspect the method may include a plurality of axially placed tags on a first device and the sensor on a second device, wherein the sensor provides signals when it passes proximate each of the axially spaced tags and determining from the sensor signals location of the second device relative to the first device.

Apparatus and method for determining orientation of a device and mill position in a wellbore utilizing identification tags

Downhole abrading tools have one or more identification tags disposed in or on the cutting end of the tools, and a housing having a detector and a relay module. The identification tags emit one or more signals that are detected by the detector which is disposed in close proximity to the cutting end. The relay module is operatively associated with the detector. During operation of the tool, the cutting end is worn causing release or destruction of one or more identification tags. The release or destruction of one or more identification tags causes a change in the signal or signals being detected by the detector. The signal change(s) is/are communicated through the relay module to the operator so that the operator can identify in real-time the amount of wear of the cutting end and, in some embodiments, the location of the wear of the cutting end.

A casing spear may comprise a mandrel, and a slip assembly comprising at least one slip. The at least one slip may comprise a generally wedge-shaped surface positioned and configured to cause the at least one slip to move radially outwards relative to the mandrel in response to a rotation of the mandrel and a torque acting on the slip assembly, the torque opposing the rotation of the mandrel. Additionally, a method of operating a casing spear may comprise inserting a casing spear into a casing, rotating a mandrel of the casing spear, applying a torque to a slip assembly of the casing spear with the casing, opposing the rotation of the mandrel, and applying a force in a radial direction to at least one slip of a slip assembly of the casing spear in response to the torque.
