A web-tracking control apparatus including a mechanism for monitoring the cross-track force exerted on a moving flexible web as the web is transported along a desired travel path, and a control circuit utilizing the monitored force to provide for feedback control to correct tracking of the moving web. The web-tracking control apparatus for controlling the movement of a flexible web traveling about an adjustable support member includes at least one web edge contacting member contacting a marginal edge of the flexible web. A pivot assembly is operatively associated with the web edge contacting member while said web edge contacting member is in contact with a marginal edge of said flexible web. The pivot assembly is capable of deflecting a predetermined amount proportional to the force of the flexible web on the edge contacting member. A cross-track force monitoring mechanism is operatively associated with the pivot assembly for producing a signal representative of deflection of the pivot assembly. An electronic circuit responsive to the pivot assembly deflection signal provides a correction signal for causing adjustment of the position of the web support member so that the web support supports the flexible web for movement without any substantially cross-track force being exerted on the web edge contacting member.

Apparatus for transporting sheets seriatim along a travel path from a first station to a downstream second station. The sheet transport apparatus comprises a housing in juxtaposition with the sheet travel path. A first transport assembly and a second transport assembly are respectively mounted within the housing. The second transport assembly is mounted in the housing, downstream in the direction of sheet transport, of the first transport assembly, for articulation relative to the first transport assembly, and so as to extend into operative relation with said sheet travel path for transporting a sheet respectively along a first portion of the sheet travel path and a second portion of the sheet travel path at an angle to the first portion.

In an electrostatographic reproduction apparatus, a mechanism which substantially prevents trail edge smear of an image on a receiver member. The reproduction apparatus has a flexible dielectric web entrained over at least a pair of support members defining a web travel path. Successive areas of the dielectric web are adapted to respectively carry a marking particle developed image. A marking particle developed image is transferable from the dielectric web to a receiver member brought into contact with the dielectric web. After transfer of the developed image to the receiver member, the receiver member is transported away from the dielectric web. A mechanism is provided for facilitating separation of a receiver member from the dielectric web. The separation mechanism includes an elongated member having a surface adapted to enable the dielectric web to pass thereover. The elongated member is positioned to engage the dielectric web along a line of contact transverse to the direction of travel of the dielectric member along the web travel path, downstream of the transfer means and upstream of the transport means to separate the receiver member from the dielectric web closer to the transfer means, and dampen perturbations in the dielectric web, whereby trail edge smear of an image on a receiver member is substantially prevented.
