An electric lamp is provided which includes a reflector typically made of glass or metal and having a reflecting surface in which an area is formed to fit a locating device attached to the internal capsule light source. At the rear of the reflector is a neck portion in which are located several seating points for the light capsule locating device. Electrical connectors extend between the capsule and the base member. The positioning member is definitely located by seating ledges molded into the neck of the reflector. In manufacture, the positioning member is placed in tension and the lead wires for the lamp assembly extend through eyelets in the base which are then mechanically fastened so as to maintain a tension on the positioning member. The fact that the positioning member is under tension allows it to maintain positional accuracy during the life of the lamp.

Integral reflector lamp

An incandescent lamp having a filament with an integral support portion between its ends which bears against the lamp envelope for supporting the filament therein is produced. The integral support portion includes a length of electrically conductive support wire enclosed within the filament, the filament being continuously coiled over the entire length of said support wire. Accordingly to a favorable embodiment, the support wire is a retained length of winding mandrel.

Method of manufacturing a single-ended incandescent lamp

A reflector lamp has a glass reflector body and a separate neck body which mates with the reflector body. A light-source capsule is insertable into a bore of the reflector body from its base end. A positioning member holds the light-source capsule and is clamped between the neck and reflector bodies to secure the light-source capsule in the reflector body. The reflector and neck bodies have surfaces which cooperate with the positioning member to position the light source capsule at the focus of the reflector when the reflector body, capsule and positioning member, and neck body are stacked together.

A lamp with an internal reflector is disclosed. The reflector includes an extension captured in the inner surface of the envelope to security position, and maintain the reflector position, without having extraneous support, bridge, or other internal fixtures to secure the reflector. The invention described reduces the need for support mechanisms, and allows the further reduction of lamp sizes for lamps having internal reflectors.

Lamp with a captured reflector and method of manufacture

A method of constructing a filament support member from a single-piece preformed refractory metal wire having at least one loop protrusion formed in the wire and positioned between the ends of the wire. A section of glass tubing is positioned over and supported by the loop protrusion with a head portion of the loop extending beyond the section of tubing. Heat is applied to melt the section of tubing to form an insulating bead at the base of said loop protrusion. The head portion of the loop protrusion is then trimmed to interrupt electrical continuity in the wire and thus electrically isolate the respective ends of the wire.

Electric reflector lamp

An improved electric lamp wherein a flexible cover holder is utilized to secure the lamp's cover means (e.g., lens) against the reflector in a sealed manner. The holder flexes during lamp operation to enable expansion and/or contraction of the cover means in such a manner that damage thereto is substantially prevented. In one example, a ceramic reflector and glass lens combination was used, with the holder comprising an annular, metallic (e.g., aluminum) rim.

An electric lamp of compact, rugged design capable of high temperature operation in such applications as down lighting, display lighting, track lighting, etc. The lamp includes a ceramic reflector having therein a capsule (e.g., tungsten halogen or arc discharge) which serves as the lamp's light source. A base member of conventional external design is secured to the reflector to enable positioning of the lamp in existing socket configurations. At least one part of the capsule engages the internal surface of the reflector's central opening to assure stabilization of the capsule. The lamp further includes a cover which is capable of outward flexing during lamp operation.

Electric lamp with ceramic reflector

A light-emitting capsule for use in a reflector-type electric lamp utilized in such applications as display and track lighting. The capsule includes a hollow bulb portion containing a light source (coiled filament or arc) therein and an elongated sealed end including a flattened, narrow width segment and a protruding end segment. The end segment, preferably of similar configuration (cylindrical) as the bulb, is adapted for engaging the internal walls of the reflector's central opening to facilitate capsule positioning within such a reflector in both a precise and stable fashion. Additionally, the bulb portion is also capable of similar engagement to even further assure stabilized capsule orientation.

Capsule light source for electric lamp

A multi-filament lamp that includes a tubular envelope having a pinch seal at one end thereof and containing therein a halogen atmosphere. At least two coiled tungsten filaments are disposed in the tubular envelope and are supported so as to be oriented parallel to each other in the longitudinal direction of the envelope. Lead-in wires are provided within the envelope and are hermetically sealed using metal foil strips, these being hermetically sealed within the pinch seal. Outer lead-in wires extend from the pinch seal and are each connected to a respective contact pin. A lead-in wire is associated with each filament and a common lead-in wire is also provided. A wire grid extends longitudinally within the envelope substantially in parallel to the filaments and is disposed therebetween so as to isolate one filament from the other and thereby provide filament redundancy.
