One embodiment of the present disclosure is a method of creating metadata during object development. The method comprises receiving a change to an object during its development that results in a changed version of the object, identifying information about the change, and creating metadata comprising the information about the change. The information about the change may include a unique instance identifier identifying and unique to the changed version of the object. As an object is changed multiple times during development, the created metadata may include a series of information segments each relating to a particular change and each uniquely identified by its unique instance identifier. The information about the change may also include, as examples, an identification of a unique instance identifier of a prior version of the object, the time of the change to the object, and/or identification of the software used to make the change. Other embodiments relate to compound objects, part mapping, and modification of ingredients, among other things.

Methods and systems for creating and storing metadata

Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, implementing techniques for selecting an application to be used to manipulate a file in a computing environment. The technique includes receiving a request to manipulate a file, the file having a file type, identifying a plurality of applications associated with the file type in the computing environment, and selecting an application from the plurality of applications associated with the file type based at least in part on context information representing a context of the computing environment. Each of the identified plurality of applications associated with the file type are capable of manipulating files of the file type.

A method and a system is provided to process data. For example, the method and system may be used to store (e.g., archive) documents. In an embodiment, the method comprises receiving a quantum of data and creating n data pieces of size s from the quantum of data. The method may comprise generating k random numbers of size s, wherein k defines a minimum number of processed data pieces required to reconstruct the quantum of data, and performing polynomial arithmetic modulo prime on the n data pieces. The polynomial arithmetic may utilize polynomial of order k and the prime may be selected based on a bit processing capability of a processor used to process the data. The prime may be 2+1 when the bit processing capability of a processor is 16 bits and 2+1 when the bit processing capability of a processor is 32 bits.

Method and system to perform secret sharing

In general, a genre classification can be determined for a document, the genre classification including multiple terms and corresponding scores indicating confidence levels for the terms with respect to the document. A relevant node in a document control policy ontology can be identified in accordance with the genre classification, and a confidence level for applicability of the relevant node can be assessed based at least in part upon at least one of the scores. A parent node of the relevant node in the document control policy ontology can be selected to stand in for the relevant node if the assessed confidence level for applicability of the relevant node falls below a threshold. At least one document control policy can be recommended to govern access to the document based on the identified or selected relevant node in the document control policy ontology.

System and method of determining and recommending a document control policy for a document

A method and a system is provided of to process data. For example, the method and system may be used to archive documents. In an embodiment, the method includes receiving original data for archiving and converting the original data into a plurality of shares using secret sharing. The plurality of shares may be distributed (e.g., to a plurality of remote repositories that each store a share. The plurality of shares may be distributed via a wide area network to a plurality of Internet Service Providers, for example, via an email message which is stored thereby to archive the share. A header of the email message may be used as a time stamp for each share. The repositories may be independent and geographically dispersed and a monitor may be provided to monitor a share stored at each repositories.

Method and system to archive data

A method, apparatus and computer-readable medium for converting messages includes stations coupled to facsimile devices and to client machines by a network to allow users at the client machines to communicate with users at the facsimile devices. In addition, the stations include processors for extracting information from messages sent by users at the facsimile devices and received by the stations, using the extracted information to convert the messages, and sending the converted messages through the network to the users at the client machines.

System and method for providing communications

Systems and methods for managing a plurality of electronically stored documents in an open document repository employ a one-way hash function to compute a hash for the stored documents as an indexing link. A document management index maps an attribute of an original document stored in the repository to the hash and the document. A hash-to-location index maps the hash to an address location of the document in a file system of the repository. The attribute points to the hash which then points to the location for linking the attribute to the location.
