A method of summarizing a document includes a step of extracting one or more sections of the document. The method also includes a step of separating at least one of the one or more extracted sections into one or more subsections based at least in part on a conjunctive structure of the section, wherein each subsection comprises one or more terms. The method also includes steps of determining whether one or more terms within a designated set of terms are present within at least one of the one or more subsections and, responsive to a determination that one or more terms within the designated set of terms are present within at least one of the one or more subsections, removing the one or more terms from the one or more subsections. The method also includes a step of aggregating at least a portion of the one or more sections into a summary of the document.

Determining a purpose of a document

Systems and methods for systematically analyzing an electronic text are described. In one embodiment, the method includes receiving the electronic text from a plurality of sources. The method also includes determining an at least one term of interest to be identified in the electronic text. The method further includes identifying a plurality of locations within the electronic text including the at least one term of interest. The method also includes for each location within a plurality of locations, creating a snippet from a text segment around the at least one term of interest at the location within the electronic text. The method further includes creating multiple taxonomies for the at least one term of interest from the snippets, wherein the taxonomies include an at least one category. The method also includes determining co-occurrences between the multiple taxonomies to determine associations between categories of a different taxonomies of the multiple taxonomies.

Systems and methods for analyzing electronic text

Consumer-generated media (CGM) and/or other media are monitored to allow an organization to become aware of, and respond to, issues that may affect how it is perceived by the public. An extract, transform, load (ETL) engine is used to process CGM and other media content, and an analytical engine utilizes a multi-step progressive filtering approach to identify those documents that are most relevant. The filtering approach includes executing broad queries to extract relevant content from different CGM and other sources, extracting text snippets from the relevant content and performing de-duplication, defining organizational identity (e.g., brand name, trade name, or company name) and hot-topic models using a rule-based and statistical-based approach, and using the models together in an orthogonal filtering approach to effectively generate alerts and reports. The methodology is found to be substantially more effective compared to a conventional keyword based approach.

Method of monitoring electronic media

A computing system and method explores a knowledge repository by accepting a natural language query from a user, determining a distance between the query and every category in every partitioning of the knowledge repository, and displaying a radial graph ( ) of the nearest categories. Further, in response to a user selecting a category, visually displaying matching elements in the category along with its nearest neighbor categories in a scatter plot ( ).

Method and system for knowledge repository exploration and visualization

A method and structure for searching a computerized network of databases containing documents uses a web crawler. The web crawler is provided with conceptual guidelines before the searching. The invention summarizes and performs text clustering on the summaries to produce classifications. The text clustering is performed using seeds based on the conceptual guidelines. The invention then provides, through a user interface, the classifications and a query entry to search the classifications and directs (in response to the query entry) the user to one or more of the classifications, such that the user is directed to the classifications (and hyperlinks to the documents) and the user is not provided the documents themselves.
