A method for the construction of an improved tank base. A tank base is constructed for protection against accidental spills and/or leaks associated with a tank battery. The improved tank base comprises at least one part of a suitable substrate, which allows for the adhesion of an elastomer such as polyurea. Polyurea is preferably applied using a spray device which yields an average coverage of about 50-80 mils, and most preferably 60 mils. If more than one substrate is used, one or more substrates can be bound together with a fastening system. Once pressure is applied in the form of weight, the fastening system can be removed, resulting in an improved tank base having at least one seam and impervious to the fluid of the tank battery.

Tank base

In an exemplary embodiment, a modular secondary containment unit is adapted to surround an above-ground fluid storage tank and includes a plurality of corner assemblies. Two or more components of each of the corner assemblies are composed of one or more reinforced resin composite materials. In several exemplary embodiments, the modular secondary containment units and the above-ground fluid storage tanks are used in oil and gas exploration and production operations. In an exemplary embodiment, an assembly for a modular secondary containment unit includes a track segment including first and second channels, a wall segment mounted on the track segment and extending within the first channel of the track segment, and a brace engaged with the wall segment and extending within the second channel of the track segment. In an exemplary embodiment, a method of constructing a modular secondary containment unit is provided.

Secondary containment unit and methods

A modular secondary containment unit that can be adapted to surround an above-ground fluid storage tank and can include a plurality of corner assemblies is described herein. Two or more components of each of the corner assemblies can be composed of one or more reinforced resin composite materials. The modular secondary containment units and the above-ground fluid storage tanks can be used in oil and gas exploration and production operations. An assembly for a modular secondary containment unit can include a track segment including first and second channels, a wall segment mounted on the track segment and extending within the first channel of the track segment, and a brace engaged with the wall segment and extending within the second channel of the track segment. A method of constructing a modular secondary containment unit is also provided.

The method of the present invention results in a secondary containment area for above ground storage tanks. The method involves leveling the site, laying a foundation bed, building a retaining barrier around the site, covering the foundation bed and retaining barrier with a liner cloth, and applying a layer of polyurea to the liner cloth and retaining barrier.
