A conveyor system includes a conveyor having an endless loop flexible member and a plurality of inserts. The conveyor system additionally includes a drive shaft and a sprocket coupled to the drive shaft. The sprocket includes a hub and a plurality of teeth extending radially outward from the hub, where at least one tooth is substantially planar and defines a channel having a plate disposed within the channel. The sprocket also includes a sprocket tooth cap fixedly coupled via an interference fit to the tooth and the plate. The sprocket tooth cap includes a first end defining a channel and an engagement face configured to drivingly engage the endless loop flexible member, and a second end defining a cavity. The cavity defining a pair of opposite facing surfaces, where the pair of opposite facing surfaces is configured to form the interference fit with the at least one tooth.

An improved cable conveyor system in which buttons provided for pushing the conveyed material are fitted with bearings to relieve the cable of torsional stresses. As a cable is tensioned, torsional stresses are incurred, tending to unwind the braided wire. By providing an opportunity for the cable to unwind, stretching may be carried out without the usual unrelieved torsional stresses.

An opening and closing apparatus for feed drops in a feed conveying system has a plurality of containers are disposed for receiving feed from a conveyor system, each of the containers having an opening in the bottom thereof. A respective valve member is disposed adjacent each one of the openings and each respective valve member has a closed position for preventing feed from falling out of each respective opening, and an open position permitting the feed to fall out of each respective container through each respective opening therein. A somewhat rigid transverse member is provided adjacent to each one of the containers and this transverse member is biased to a first position and is movable to a second position. A respective elongated member is operatively attached at one end thereof to the transverse member and is operatively attached to a respective one of the valve members at the other end thereof.

An auger apparatus having an elongated housing for permitting granular, powdery or pelletized material to pass therethrough has an inlet is provided for introducing material to be conveyed into one end of the housing and an outlet for causing the material to drop therethrough to a desired destination, this outlet comprising a plurality of elongated openings disposed at least partially in a lower portion of the housing. An auger is disposed in the housing for moving the material therein in one direction through the housing. A motor is provided for rotating the auger about an axis in a direction to cause material disposed in the housing to move from the inlet to the outlet thereof. The lower portion of the housing is at least partially cylindrical in shape and the elongated openings have one end thereof closer to the inlet than to the outlet of the housing and these elongated openings also have one end thereof lower than the other end thereof. A larger opening thereof is disposed downstream from the outlet for receiving large undesirable lumps or chunks of material.

A poultry feeder releasably attachable to a feed conveyor and adjustable to feed poultry on either an ad libitum basis or a restricted feed basis. A segmented cage is mounted on an upright barrel member that is releasably attached to the feed conveyor. Feed from the conveyor passes through the barrel member to a feed pan suspended beneath the barrel member by the segmented case. In the restricted feeding mode, the barrel member can store feed for release into the feed pan as feed is consumed by the poultry. In the overfill or ad libitum mode, a control member directs feed outside of the barrel member into the feed pan to more completely fill the pan for improved access to young poultry.
