A first access key, which is provided by a key server for decrypting a file and the encrypted file is published on a public network by a first user. Every time the secured file is accessed by a second user, the first access key is provided by the key server to decipher the file. The first user can control access to the file by deleting the first access key on the key server, thus denying the second user access to the access key preventing de-encryption of the secured file.

Method and system for securing data

A method of hash string extraction from biometric information is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of providing a biometric information sample in the form of a fingerprint for example, extracting features from the biometric information sample and encoding the features based on their location within the biometric information sample; and, generating a string of values based on the extracted features and their determined locations. The method further comprises the steps of hashing the string of symbols to produce a plurality of hash values for comparing the plurality of hash values against a stored hash value for identifying a user.

Method and system for hash string extraction from biometric data

A security system for providing gated access for a third party to a secure entity or service and a method for operating the same is disclosed. The security system comprises a portable biometric device and a receiving module connected over a transmission channel. Biometric data in dependence upon a biometric characteristic such as a fingerprint of an authorized person is stored in memory of the portable biometric device. Biometric information of the person is captured, encoded and biometric data in dependence thereupon is provided to a processor. Using the processor the captured biometric data is then compared with the stored biometric data to produce a comparison result. If the comparison result is indicative of a match the first person is enabled to initiate provision of a gating signal for enabling signals provided by the third party to access the secure entity or service. The gating signal is received at a port of the secure entity or service. In response to the gating signal, a processor within a locking mechanism of the secure entity or service sets a flag for use in gating received signals provided by a third party for controlling access to the secure entity or service. The flag is set such that in a first state the locking mechanism is non-responsive to the signals and in a second other state the locking mechanism is responsive to the signals provided by the third party. If the first designated user has set the flag into the second other state access is provided to the secure entity or service by the third party upon receipt of a signal from the third party.

Method and system for providing gated access for a third party to a secure entity or service

A security system for securing an entity or a service from indiscriminate access and a method for operating the same is disclosed. Each designated person of M designated persons is provided with a portable biometric device. Biometric data in dependence upon a biometric characteristic of each of the M designated persons is stored in memory of the respective portable biometric device. Biometric information representative of a biometric characteristic of each of a subset of 1&#x3c;N&#x3c;M persons is captured in response to each of the N persons presenting said information to the respective portable biometric device. The biometric information is encoded and biometric data in dependence thereupon is provided to the processor of each respective portable biometric device. Using the processor of each respective portable biometric device the captured biometric data is then compared with the stored biometric data to produce a comparison result. If the comparison result is indicative of a match an authorization signal is transmitted from each of the respective portable biometric devices to a receiving port of the security system. Upon receipt of the authorization signal a processor of the locking mechanism determines access privileges to the secure entity or service in dependence upon the authorization signals it received from the respective portable biometric devices of the subset of N persons. If an authorization signal of the subset of N persons is missing, the security system denies access to the secure entity or service.

Method of hash string extraction

A portable biometric device enables a designated person to unlock any one portal exclusive of other portals of a secure entity and or a secure service by choosing which of their personal biometric characteristics is presented to the portable biometric device. The portable biometric device includes a biometric sensor such that a biometric characteristic of a person for example a finger pattern is read dependent upon the person presenting the biometric characteristic to the biometric sensor. The reading is encoded in order for a processor to determine if the biometric characteristic has been predesignated for access via a predesignated one of the plurality of portals. If so, the processor selects an appropriate authorization code which is communicated by wireless transmission for unlocking the predesignated one of the portals, to the exclusion of any other of the portals. In an alternate example the processor is a central controller remote from the biometric device. The central controller is responsive to a wireless transmission of the encoded reading, from the portable biometric device, for determining which one if any of the predesignated portals is to be unlocked.

Security access method and apparatus

The present application discloses a wireless hand held portable security device in the form of a wireless hand held portable biometric device in communication with a plurality of ubiquitous items for receiving information from, and sending information to the plurality of ubiquitous items, comprising a processor for selecting at least one item of the plurality of ubiquitous items and for sending information to the selected item in order to activate or deactivate or send a programming to the selected item. The level of security and the personalization is achieved by using a fingerprint or a combination of fingerprints for accessing communication with a selected item.
